How it works
-------------------------------
This first time a player drinks skooma with the Addiction mod enabled, the addiction quest will be added to the player. This is not a quest that is visible, it's just so a gamemode script can be enabled only after the player drinks his first skooma. Also, if the player cures himself (the real cure) of Skooma, the quest will be removed so that the gamemode script doesn't continue to run.

Drinking a certain number of skooma within a certain timeframe causes the player to go up in addiction levels. The numbers below reflect the benefit of being an addict. Mainly a permanently increase in strength and speed as long as they maintain that level of addiction. There are of course, side affects.

Each addiction level has a requirement for skooma to be consumed, thus addiction can get quite expensive and without feeding that addiction the player goes into withdrawal.

When the player enters withdrawal, withdrawal affects are applied. The numbers below reflect the modifiers that will be applied. Note: While the numbers for speed and strength seem steep, remember that you are still addicted so part of it is cancelled out.

As can be seen below, gaining the addiction is as easy as drinking 2 skooma in a 10 day period. The balance that must be maintained to keep from going into the next level is very close to the requirement to keep from going into withdrawal such that accidentally drinking just 1 more potion than is required within the alloted time will send you into the next level of addiction.

As of Version 1.1 there should be an "Addicts Diary" added to your Inventory if you become addicted. This will give you key insights into what level you are at, and how long you have until you absolutely must consume before going into withdrawal (at a daily rate as opposed to down to the hour).

Note: I only check for withdrawal at a daily rate rather than down to the hour. It greatly simplifies the mod so it is possible to drink at 23:59 then go into withdrawal at 00:01 at level 5. Essentially at level 5 you will go into withdrawal every day which is why the initial level 5 was every 2 days...but that's the price to pay for addiction. :)

The Fake Cure

Addiction is a disease. Thus, players that are immune to disease can become "addicted" but really has no affect. Players with increased disease resistance will see the affects of addiction reduced. Although this is a disease in the sense of the word, players seaking cures via potions or altars will not find much help.

The Real Cure
-------------------------------
The only real cure of Skooma Addiction is to go through the levels of withdrawal and cure yourself. It's a choice that has to be made...although judicious use of WAIT and SLEEP can reduce the impact if you really want to disrupt the immersion.

The Alternate Cure (Or what to do when you don't want this mod)

Since everything is implemented as a disease removal of the mod is a two step process if you are addicted.
1) Disable the Mod
2) Visit a temple and get cured or use a Cure Disease potion or spell.

Changes

Version 1.3
- I changed "Skooma" to "Skooma Effect". As eiland pointed out "Skooma On Self" is not the intended affect, however it might be at higher addiction levels :)
- Removed Agility affects from the addiction levels. See bugs.

- Adds Skooma Addicts Diary which provides information on the number of skooma consumed, the current level of addictio. The current level of withdrawal, the consumption rate required for the current level and how many days have passed since last consumption.
- Fixed but where it required 1 extra day in withdrawal than I wanted
- Fixed bug where it was possible to go back up to AddictionLevel 3 after beating withdrawal level 3 and then consuming skooma.
- Removed the You Drank Skooma??? Message Box after drinking a skooma. Now you only get messages if you change your addiction level, withdrawal level, or check your diary.

BUGS

- Agility Drain Bug
There is a problem with agility drain which actually appears to be in an issue in game which is fairly difficult to describe. Essentially, Agility drain is only working at 1/2 what it should, and also when you are addicted the agility affect is getting applied at 0 after you drink skooma. What happens is that higher level drains take precedence over lower ones and so they zero out. The problem is that after the higher level drain goes away, it doesn't fix the zeroing out of the lower drain, at least on Agility. Removed Agility modifiers since they don't work accurately. Note this has no negative affect on your character.
