Yeah, WB is very good for Oblivion - it has the ability to create a custom bashed patch with a few clicks that automatically patches many conflicts between mods, so it's good to use it when having more than just a few mods.
This mod can be installed with WB, as to MO2, probably too but I never used MO2 for Oblivion, so I don't know if it can install a mod that is packed in a way WB always use, such as Francesco mod here; try it and see.
I wound up installing Francesco's with Wrye Bash now that I'm more comfortable with the installer and I'm glad I did, since in the Wizard you need to make meaningful choices on the mod's config. Thanks for the replies.
Newb modder here. I tried installing the update file using the wizard but I got this error:
An error occurred in the wizard script: Line 520:SelectSubPackage "08 Optional Extras SI" Error:(Line 520, Column 42): Sub-package '08 Optional Extras SI' is not a part of the installer.
The mod seems to run fine without it, but I'm not sure if i'm missing out on anything important here. Should I just forget about it?
What it says means that it didn't found 08 Optional Extras folder (that is only present in the main file). I think that for the update to be installed correctly, you need to merge the main file with the update file manually first, and only then run wizard. They were never merged for some reason, maybe because of internet connection.
So, unpack the main file, then unpack the update file and move update's files over to folder containing the main file content, say yes to replace files. Then pack what you have, move it into WB's Installer folder and install using Wrye Bash's wizard.
EDITED: and it would be good to stick that post so that it remained on top. Unfortunately, I didn't get response for my queries to stick some posts yet. Might be good if someone bump it if it got buried then, but such things rarely happen.
I have a bug. Bandits suddenly have lots of calipers in their inventory and don't wear any armour or weapons. Many dungeons are empty. I suspect this is caused by this mod. Any ideas on how to fix this?
This is the notorious Caliper Bug. There is a fix for it which you can find here on Nexus under "Francescos Caliper Bug Fix Spell". Also read the most recent comment on it.
Not a missing texture, that's a missing mesh. Much easier to fix than a missing texture. You can assign its mesh in tes4edit or the construction kit easily.
The meshes for (at least) the Noble Plate boots are broken. I was able to do a quick fix by copying and replacing them with the Imperial Watch boot mesh. If I encounter more issues with the Noble Plate armor set I may make a quick patch to fix the meshes.
I found a really old post on some Japanese website that mentions an "aaNoRunBackwards" quest which could be disabled by one of the patches for Fran 4.5b. except -- in the post it is said that the quest is part of MOBS?.. and the 4.5b patches are obsolete and gone from nexus, naturally. aaNoRunBackwards seems to be part of THIS mod's .esm file, and there's nothing that mentions speed in the .ini file. confused. also, I have literally zero knowledge of modding and I don't wanna mess things up. please help?
Simplest and easiest thing to do would be to just decrease the game's difficulty. Without this tweak IIRC melee enemies will not even be able to hit player character because of how the pc sprints backwards, constantly hitting enemies with arrows or spells.
That said, it's part of Combat Tweaks .esm (01 - Combat Tweaks folder) that is chosen during installation (but without it, other things will be off too).
If anyone is still interested in finding the patch for this you can find it here: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/17621 Just download the "No MOBS run limit" file, I tested it and it works fine for version 5.
IF YOU CHOSE TO USE MOBS with Francesco, install standalone MOBS as well: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/28537 (install MOBS Shivering Isles - if you have GOTY or SI version and MOBS Knights DLC Fixed 2b - if you have KOTN(included in GOTY) and/or DLCs).
IF YOU USE OTHER MODS THAT ADDS NEW WEAPONS, check out MOBSification of MODS: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45522 (you may easily make your own patch for any mod with instructions there too; I even wrote an article there about why MOBS is important: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/articles/44198
IF YOU WANT MORE WEAPON DAMAGE (for shorter fights) check out this page: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/17621 (these are patches for Frans 4.5b but that particular patch - Francesco's Optional Skill Based Damage & Durability - will work with 5.0 with no problem).
IF YOU ENCOUNTERED CALIPER BUG (lots on calipers in NPCs inventory): use this fix mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/41961 as an alternative you might uninstall Frans, resave the game, reinstall Frans, wait in game for 3 days + 1 hour for leveled lists (with loot, NPCs and so on) reset. You may alternatively try console commands to fix the bugs (make sure to hit Enter after each line...): StopQuest FranLoot Set FranLoot.ReSet to 1 Set FranLoot.Set to 0 Set FranLoot.DoOnce to 0 StartQuest FranLoot
I guess so, but it didn't remove the extra damage from SKILL based damage - only extra BASE damage. If you want re-add that you could edit it or just use that file from MMM.
I found that the extra damage from skill is quite enough for faster fights (matter of taste perhaps) - and the satisfaction - that your skill in a weapon matters more now is good too ;)

This post may be useful for Frans users, so hopefully it might be pinned or bumped in the future.
""Francescos Optional Skill Based Damage and Durability
Based of the MMM plug, and provided with permission. tweaked to remove the 50% increase to base damage. ""
looks like this patch has been tweaked! no more extra damage!
