REGARDING STEAM: Multiple people reported issues with Steam version of Oblivion not loading OBSE. These reports were always present, but increased exponentially after windows 11 and some specific updates. If you are launching OBlvion directly with the Oblivion.exe try to start it from steam and see if it load. In case it don't load, Delete the obse_steam_loader.dll and rely on the obse_loader.exe to launch the game, with Steam started, or use a custom launcher with support for the obse_launcher.exe. Support for launching the steam version directly was added to address already launching the game trough Proton, that had the same problem, and it was reported working from multiple people.
In case of Application load error 5:0000065434: This is a tricky error that have multiple causes: If you have Oblivion on a different drive then the one where Steam is installed this is one of the problems. While xOBSE post 22.10 have some handling of the situation it may not be perfect, and not cover all cases. Other issue could steam of communciation problem between OBlivion DRM and Steam process. This could be caused by multiple factors, windows itself or some antivirus. Add Oblivion folder to antivirus exclusion and check wethever the exe and dll files from OBSE got blocked by windows (you can check in the about panel from the last entry of the right click menu) and in case unblock them, and try again.
In certain circumstances adding the steam_appid.txt file may be a workaround too.
I'm searching for a way to replace the current double mechanism into one more robust ones.
I may have a fix for people whose OBSE has all of a sudden stopped working. After my Windows update 24h or w/e, my Oblivion wouldn't use OBSE, on Steam btw. After trying to reinstall multiple mods to see if that would work, I remembered I updated the other night, I reverted Windows back to 23h2, and now OBSE works again. OBSE might need an update to work on 24h.
OBSE is not working. Previously, it was showing an error in LOOT, so I reinstalled the recommended version, but the tester still shows it is not working right. The tester says You must also run obse_loader.exe in your Oblivion folder but when I do that, the message shows If OBSE fails to load, go to Steam > settings > In Game and check the box marked Enable Steam community in game. I have looked, and there is no such box.
OBSE is not working.... I'm copying all the OBSE files into the oblivion directory but right when it's transported i go into data folder and the file just turns into OBSE instead of OBSEini almost like a complete different file not sure what is going on.
Is there anyway to use the OBSE launcher while still playing Oblivion offline? If I go offline in Steam - the Application load error 5:0000065434 pops up and the game doesn't launch. As soon as I go online - everything is fine. I'd like to be able to travel with my game and not have to be online while still being able to use the OBSE launcher. Thank you.
This error code has nothing to do with your connection to steam. Other people have reported this error being fixed by copying steam.exe to your game directory. That being said I have no idea why it would work online but not offline.
P.S. The only "launcher" you should be using is MO2 and Wrye Bash which run obse automatically assuming you have already properly installed it.
barbarenblut, this error happens when the Steam DRM fails. One of the things, the one that is better understood, involve the steam.exe position when installing into a different drive. But IT'S NOT THE ONLY REASON. Also that one is a use case xOBSE mostly HANDLE.
Also Do not be an apologist. Not everyone like MO2, and want to use it
The old version works well. The new one is incompatible with ENB.

I'm using linux and proton, I've followed the linux instructions, however the game launches directly and skips the launcher, meaning I can't access the data files menu and activate mods.
