I realize some folks have complained about the self-executing/extracting zip packaging. However, when I uploaded this mod many years ago, my notion was that, given the complexity of Hemingwey’s Capes and the number of optional and alternative files, it was best for users to extract everything to a separate location and choose the .esps they wanted based on reading over the extensive and informative documentation. In any event, there is nothing sinister or wrong with the download package being self-extracting—it was merely a convenience.
OTHER FAQ’S:
1. OH NOOOOOES! WHY DOES THIS MOD HAVE AN .ESM FILE?
On a related topic, some have expressed concern that this mod includes an .esm file. The primary reason for the .esm file is that such structure allows other mods to make use of the capes.
At the time this mod was published, I was working closely with the FCOM, OOO, MMM, Frans and UFCOM teams to integrate Hemingwey’s Capes with those mods, and using an .esm structure allowed such integration. (Unfortunately, it appears that later versions of OOO no longer support the Hemingwey’s Capes optional integration .esps for FCOM and OOO. However, you can still run the non-FCOM/OOO versions of Hemingwey’s Capes with those mods—you just won’t get full integration with the later versions of OOO.)
Having an .esm file structure also allowed me to easily create dozens of optional setups for Hemingwey’s Capes. The .esm file is a FEATURE, and not a PROBLEM. The .esm file does NOT cause any conflicts and will not break your game. The .esm file merely sits in your game with the capes ready, until it is called by an .esp from ANY mod.
2. OMG! THE CAPES DON’T SHOW WITH MY FAVORITE MOD OR DLC ARMOR! WTF!?
Another FAQ has to do with the capes not showing when worn with certain mod and DLC armors. This happens because many such mod and DLC armors hide amulets and the primary cape variety in this mod uses the amulet slot on your character. In order to address this issue, the best solution is to use Wrye Bash and select the ‘show amulets’ options when building your Bashed Patch. (This is ALL explained in detail in the included README file.)
I am back to modding (primarily The Witcher 3 at this point), but I am not currently playing Oblivion. However, if I do start playing Oblivion again, I *might* make and release an updated version of Hemingwey’s Capes.

Hi, sorry, but the readme file does not explain how to select the "show amulet" option in relation to rebuilding the bashed patch in Wrye Bash. That just doesn't seem to be a thing. I right-click on Bashed Patch in Wrye Bash to "rebuild patch" and nothing relating to your mod and "show amulets" ever comes up, at all. So, how is that actually supposed to operate?
Nice mod, but wish it has patch for not giving common NPCs capes as well, I like the feeling of uniqueness, common citizen wearing cape feels less unique.
This is the best cape mod in oblivion. Thank you Hemingwey for making capes for us to enjoy for so many years! With that being said someone should make this compatible with the Armamentarium Complete mod. That would be really awesome.
Sir Hemingway instantly kills Else God-hater is this part of the mod or a bug? is she (Else God-hater) important I'm kina sick of interrupting my playthrough to fix dumb stuff like this. I'll just let her be dead if she in no one special like giving or involved in quests and stuff.
Elsie is coded as a Mythic Dawn agent. However, she is of no consequence in terms of quests, etc. If I ever update this mod, I might code/flag the NPC traveling vendors from my mod so they don’t kill other NPCs….even though I used to enjoy watching them make such havoc… 🤣 In truth, Sir Hemingwey is one of the least violent… Utnapishtu is a true killing machine… 😉

View Ribbon -> Show/Hide section -> checkbox: File name extensions.
Then change the .exe to .zip
