I think the difference is with this mod you can have more control over your music, Oblivion only has four folders for music tracks while this mod offers more. If you look through the file you can see that you can have more folder options and I assume you can set these different folders to play during a certain event.

This was a double post bug but I might as-well mention it. I used Enhanced Music Control 2 for a good amount and I think it's great. I just now realized with Enhanced Music Control 2 we no longer need our music tracks to be 192 bitrate. However I also realized it was the cause for my game having a stutter for every five seconds. Just a heads up if you try either mods make sure that it works without stuttering because I tried all the following options in the comments from removing tags to installing random software and none of them worked.

Yeah the readme for beta 3 says it needs EMC2 now, but when I run it with EMC2 I get stutters every 2 seconds so I uninstalled EMC2 and back to smooth gameplay.  However seems the mod doesn't work at all without EMC2 so guess I'm not using this mod since it breaks my performance.

You can try using the older Better Music System v2.42b instead. V2.42b requires the original EMC (& Sound Commands) instead of the newer EMC2. Although there seems to be bug reports for EMC too....

All very well. Most mods come with readme files that one isnt really in the habit of reading since most are fairly self setup with no hastles. Youd think it would be courteous to at least include under REQUIREMENTS that it needs EMC with a link to that, like most modders do.

What are the requirements for this mod? Because I can't get it to use the custom folders and the power of music spell won't change the music

I see a setting in the ini to completely disable battle music, however, it remains when I encounter any enemy. Please advise, thanks! Does this setting only disable battle music added by this mod? I was hoping for a holy grail fix to disable combat music in general.
*If anyone has this issue, make sure you have EMC2 installed in obse plugins or certain features will not work.

Is there a good comprehensive step by step tutorial for this out there anywhere?

It feels like the information is scattered and sparse, including the brief html readme that comes with this mod.

Figured out how to get basic things working and mostly which folder corresponds to what area/event just through referencing the readme and ini file... but some of them are mysterious like the "septem" folder (with the aer, aqua, ignis, posteritas, praesentia, praeteritum, and terra subfolders)... what in the hex is that all for???

Also is there a way to customize things further and how?
Like... if I wanted a certain mp3 to only play in the town of Anvil how would I do that?
Is there any way to set up music to only play in shops or certain shops (like only weapon shops)?
Is there a way to make only select battle music play when the enemy is 5 levels or higher than your character (in otherwords, STONG/BOSS enemies?)??

Apologies if I just managed to miss the answers to these questions from obvious sources... but I've been working on setting this up all day today and hoping I would eventually find answers to the questions above... without luck. :\

For those who don't understand how this mod works, please read the readme that comes with it. There are 2 required downloads you must make for this mod to work. Two OBSE Plugins. If you don't have them installed, the custom playlists don't work.

Does 3.0 beta still need sound commands 4.0?

Do we still need "BetterMusicSystem for Shivering Isles" with the 3.x beta or is that included?

This is a really great mod. You've got my endorsement.

I'm using the 3.0 version and everything works as it should, except the combat playlist won't play, even with the UseRats setting turned to 1 in the ini. I'm not sure what to do. I've been testing it against the Imperial City guards. Battle Music plays just fine without BMS enabled.
