About this mod

Allows you to use the Dark Brotherhood’s poisoned apples as a poisonous food AND create a poison to apply to your weapon.

Basically, the poison apple you come across while doing quests for the Dark Brotherhood allows you to place the apple on a table and wait for someone to eat it. This works fine until you become a master alchemist and decide that you want to use the apple’s poison in a more, err, direct way by creating a poison and applying it to your weapon. If you do this, you will find that the result of your slaving away at a hot retort creates a potion, not a poison.

To understand what went wrong, you need to know how ingredients’ effects work in the game. When you add a magic effect to your ingredient, you may flag the effect as hostile. Flagging it hostile means that that effect creates a poison rather than a potion (funny enough, one could give a restore health effect the hostile flag and turn that ingredient into a “restore health” poison. Shoot an arrow with this “poison” at someone and they get healed). The poison apple’s Deadly Poison effect has this flag turned off. I know that there are already about 5 mods on TESNexus which claim to fix this problem but they all do this by turning the poison’s hostility flag on. This allows you to create poisons with the apple but that also means that you may no longer place the apple on a table and wait for someone to eat it because it will never get eaten (except by forgetful players).

This mod, however, provides a unique solution to this problem. It consists of a quest script and another reference which is exactly the same as the DB’s poisoned apple except with the hostile flag checked. When you enter your alchemy menu, the script checks your character’s inventory for any DB apples and replaces them with my poison apples. Now you can create some poisons with the apple (if you are a master alchemist, that is). When your alchemy business is finished, the script checks your inventory for any of my poison apples which you didn’t use and replaces them with the DB apple.

So, to sum it all up, in all situations except alchemy, you will have the unaltered DB apple in your inventory and you can drop these into the world and wait for people to eat them. When you begin alchemy, all DB apples are replaced with mine so you can create a poison with them and all of my unused apples are replaced with DB apples when you leave alchemy.
