About this mod

NOTE: Superseded by OBSE v21. Prevents the Permanent Enchantments from quest items bug.

====IMPORTANT NOTICE====
As mentioned previously, OBSE v21 has patched the script functions that cause this bug. Now, however, OBSE v21 is no longer in beta. Hence, the root cause of this bug is fixed for all Oblivion players that use it. As a result, I recommend that anyone using this mod uninstall it and upgrade to the latest version of OBSE.

Old notice:
NOTE: OBSE v0021 patches the script commands that cause the bug this mod fixes. It is currently in beta but when it becomes a stable release, I would recommend that everyone use OBSE v0021 or later instead of this mod, not least of which because using OBSE will mean that any mods using the bugged script commands will also be fixed as opposed to only Oblivion and Shivering Isles with this mod.

Description
===========
Prevents the Permanent Enchantments from quest items bug.

Details
=======
Sometimes, when you have played the game for a while, you will notice that you can no longer equip certain quest items (the message "You can't equip this item right now" appears) and you will have some new abilities in your magic effects page which come with a certain item's enchntments but you are not wearing that item.

This mod attempts to prevent that problem from occuring in Vanilla Oblivion and Shivering Isles. NOTE THAT PREVIOUS SENTENCE! This plugin does not prevent the problem from occuring when another mod does a "player.RemoveAllItems" command. Nor does it fix this problem. If your character already has a stuck enchantment, good luck finding a solution (doing a clean save without the mod that adds the enchantment is one way to get rid of it).

Lastly, this mod might not prevent this problem in all situations where the problem is caused in Vanilla Oblivion and SI. Specifically, I know that the problem happens in these four vanilla situations:
  • Going to jail
  • Accepting Harrow's request
  • Entering "The Dreamworld"
  • During Sanguine's quest

and these two SI situations:
  • Equipping the "Ring of Disrobing"
  • Going to jail
And hence, only those six situations were fixed. If you can find other situations which cause this bug to occur, please inform me.

Incompatibility
===============
The Unofficial Oblivion Patch (UOP) also edits the problem script in Sanguine’s quest (for different reasons). Version 1.1 and later incorporates the UOP fixes into that script as well. Load this mod after UOP.

Known Issues or Bugs
====================
  • This mod can only prevent the Permanent Enchantment bug from occuring on the four occasions when it occurs in Vanilla Oblivion and two in SI. If you know of other mods which cause this problem, I will try to make a patch for that mod.
  • If you already have the stuck enchantment problem, this mod will not fix it (doing a clean save without the mod that adds the enchantment is one way to get rid of it).
