Abriael's Human Races Revamped 1.0

by: Abriael

Since when I started to play Oblivion on the PC (after missing out a lot by playing for years the PS3 version, which is not moddable) I felt that the vanilla human races provided by the game were sersiously lacking. In fact most people make their companions and favourite characters out of the beautiful elven races that have created by many talented modders in the past.
While I love elves as much as the next person (you probably noticed that from my previous companion mods), I always had a personal preference for humans through my whole gaming career.

This mod is my personal attempt to try and bring the four vanilla human races on par with the many user-created elven races.

After installing this mod, you will have four more races in your character creation menu (nothing is replaced, the original vanilla humans will still be there, so no incompatibilities will be created): Imperial (Abriael), Nord (Abriael), Redguard (Abriael) and Breton (Abriael). While the looks of such races are "beautified", their stats, height, voices and powers are exactly identical to the original ones. This ensures that your gaming experience will be exactly identical to the one you would have if you chosen one of the vanilla race. Your character will just look much better (at least according to my aesthetical taste, yours might be different).
An important detail: this race mod aims to improve the looks of female characters ONLY. The male version of "Abriael's humans" is not supposed to be used. If you want your character to be male you'll be much better off using the vanilla version.

Included in the package are the savegames related to the four "demo" characters Abriael's Human Races Characters. Sonja the Imperial, Iantha the Redguard, Verena the Breton and Ariene the Nord. They're included in the "Savegames" folder (see below for installation instructions).

Have fun!

Version 1.0 (07/01/2009): Release

Oblivion Patch 1.2.0416 or higher

Unofficial Oblivion Patch or any Custom Race fix mod which will allow the game to work with any custom race (required for the Demon Race to work properly, or the dialog with the other prisoner at the beginning of the game will never start)

HG EyeCandy Body (HGEC) or EyeCandy Body Replacer most definitely recommended

1. Extract the Data folder in your Oblivion folder, confirm when it asks if you want to overwrite old files

2. Start Oblivion Launcher or Oblivion Mod Manager. Click 'Data Files' (if you're using the stock launcher), place a checkmark beside Abriael_Human.esp

3. If you want to use the included savegames extract the contents of the Savegames folder in your Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves folder

Go into your Oblivion/Data directory and delete Abriael_Human.esp.

Incompatibilities, Known Issues or Bugs

None known so far.

A word of advice for the ones that want to use this race for NPC or companions. Due to the way Oblivion handles NPC faces, it's a good idea to make the overall face and the chin area of your character thinner than what you envision when you're creating it. The game will make it look slightly fatter when "placed" on your companion/npc. This, of course, doesn't apply to player characters.

You can find me on TESNexus and the EyeCandy forums under the username Abriael. I'll check up on the mod's page here and there as well if you don't feel like PMing me, although I can't promise as fast of a reply.

Thanks to Bethesda for making the original human races so bad looking to make this mod necessary :P

Thanks to Ren, Flonne and Nequam for their beautiful eyes

Thanks to Ren for his awesome head mesh

Thanks to Ren, Babe, idkrrr and Soya for the lovely hair

Thanks to Nec01 for the base for the face texture

Thanks to RAIAR and Madcat221 for creating the HG Eyecandy body (without which i wouldn't even bother playing Oblivion anymore)

Thanks to Exnem for starting the EyeCandy trend

Thanks to Desuchan and Eiries for providing a readme file for me to copy from. It's much better and more complete of anything I could come up with myself, expecially not being an english native speaker

Thanks to Iantha (ObsidianRae) for inspiring Iantha's looks and name

Thanks to the many modders that inspired me to give my small contribution to this community.

Thanks to the community at the EyeCandy forums for providing constant inspiration.

If you wish to include characters belonging to my revamped human races in your own mods, please do so (giving credit to the list above and to me), but please don't include parts of the mod itself in yours, to avoid incompatibilities and conflicts. Just make your esp dependent from mine. If you need help in doing so, please send me a private message and I will try my best to give you support.
You're very welcome and encouraged to create companions using my races, under the same conditions as above. You know I love companions.

As I moved to Dragon Age Origins, I'm not updating this file anymore. It should still be working, but I'm not guaranteeing compatibility with mods released after the latest update of this file or required files updated after the same date. Please don't contact me asking to update it, because I don't even have Oblivion installed at the moment.
If you find the need to update this mod in order to make it work alongside newer mods, you're authorized to do so and to upload your own version on TESNexus, provided that you give credit where it's due :D
