I enjoy small, immersive mods like this! Looks kinda wierd combined with normalmaps mod for some reason

This in combination with Hackdirt Alive make for a genuinely scary experience, something the vanilla game often lacks even when it comes to places like Hackdirt. Whether or not this is a worth another plug-in space it's up to debate but I would totally keeps this.

    Mod Review
Hackdirt - Abyss of the Deep Ones

    *

[So I'm working my way through, commenting on all the mods I've enjoyed over the years. This mod has been in my load order since I read about it on the Bethesda forums.]

I downloaded this mod awhile back because it was tagged as a quest mod and I'm a huge Lovecrat fan. To be frank, it doesn't add any quest I can find. So if you're actually looking for a quest mod, this may not be the mod for you.

Installation: Simple. No specialized tools required, although it helps to clean this mod with TES4edit before using it. All my remaining comments are based on my "cleaned" version.

Conflicts: None that I've ever encountered. Logically, the conflicts would arise between certain Hackdirt interior cells - and so if you're having problems, look there. I've ran this mod with any number of mods and load orders (probably against as many as 300+ mods) without problem.

Gameplay: Well, as the author points out, it's pretty basic. It's definately an atmosphere mod and NOT a quest mod.

What it does add is a very creepy atmosphere to a new area (interior cell). It is artistically done and it's worth a few minutes of visiting every time I play the game. It has a very cool effect: it looks equally creepy whether you're using Nighteye or a torch or nothing. That's why it stays in my load order.

Unfortunately, the mod has an unfinished feel to it - so much so that I've added additional elements to my version to make the mod more "satisfying." Since I don't want to release too much information, I'll just say this is basically a visual only mod. This makes it a tough choice considering the 250 mod limit.

So one suggestion for users: Consider merging this mod with another mod to free up an .esp space.

One suggestion for the author: if a revision is planned, please consider adding some elements to make the overall challenge and reward more satisfying. Otherwise, thanks for making this mod.

I've never finished the vanilla Hackdirt quest so I don't really know what the difference is. I do notice that ringgold99 mentioned there was another chamber and a few more enemies. I did read the description, but I was hoping for a little more. I guess the original quest was pretty basic to begin with.

Never mind those Daedric spires of horror and tortured flesh. Swarms of Spider Daedra, Xivilai, and Mehrunes Dagon himself. Nope, the scariest thing in Oblivion is a guy with a club, no shirt, and big googly eyes.

Hackdirt scares the crap out of me. Those cultists with the big eyes freak me out when they come charging at me. I don't even know if I want to try this mod Hackdirt is scary enough!

Also I heard the town was based off a book called A Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft.

I always found Hackdirt really creepy. The scariest quest in Oblivion, IMO. And you, sir, just made it even scarier!

The lighting is perfect, but just one chamber sorta disappointed me. Still, great job!

Looks like i'll have to return to hackdirt, even though i killed everyone but Jiv (for helping) and moved Jiv to Chorrol using Companion Share and Recruit!

No it does not. I hadn't read any Lovecraft at the time. It simply adds some closure based on what the Oblivion quest made me expect. What I added bears some coincidental resemblance to something in a Cthulu video game, however.
