About this mod

Slower Bow Firing Rate

A small realism tweak that lowers the firing rate of bows.
The reason for this mod is to simulate the disadvantage it is to use a bow in close combat. To give you a reason to switch to a melee weapon in close combat.

Simple description
------------------

This simple realism mod lowers the firing rate for all bows used by the player through rarely used Game Setting for maximum compatibility. Does not affect NPCs.

Longer description
------------------

Haven't you noticed when in close combat against an enemy your bow is just as effective and fast as if you were using a sword, an axe or other melee weapon.
I found this silly since there should be a clear disadvantage from trying to use a bow while in close combat.

I didn't lower the Weapon Speed of any bows, which was my original plan with this mod. The reason for is that if the Weapon Speed is lowered too much for a bow the bow-draw-back-sound will not fit with the actual bow animation.

I've tweaked the following GMST: fArrowBowTimerBase, fArrowWeakGravity & fArrowWeakSpeedBase.

The only adjustment you need to be aware of is that there isn't any indication for when you're supposed to release the arrow to achieve maximum effect of the shot. Normally you would fire the arrow as soon as the bow has been fully pulled back.
With this mod, after the animation ends of you preparing to fire an arrow you have to wait about 1 second extra before you release. If you release prematurely the arrow will drop pretty fast towards the ground and therefore not deliver the full damage, if you do hit someone.
It works fine though, because after a couple of practice shots it's pretty easy to know exactly when to release to achieve max damage. The feeling for it comes fast.

Tip
---
Perhaps you'd want to use this mod in conjunction with a mod that raises the damage done by weapons (there are several of those around) to make up for the lowered firing rate of the bows, however this is not necessary as I don't use any and it works fine for my taste.
