I install mods manually, is this mod still required?

      Yes, unless you use SkyBSA.

im gonna post this here because you in the near or distant future might be facing the same issue that i was facing. i tried everything i could to make this archive invalidation work. and nothing did. vortex? no dice. exe install? nope. manual? nada. nothing seemed to work. i even verified the file and re-did everything. i looked about it online and found out about the SkyBSA mod on the UESP wiki page. i downloaded that and all my texture mods worked like a charm. so if you can't make archive invalidation work, try SkyBSA here: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/49568
trust me, it saved me hours of headache. it might save you as well.
BTW: you need OBSE for this. you can also find the latest version here on nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/37952

    ***VERY IMPORTANT NOTE***

When you use ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated you must be sure your "Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa" and other "Oblivion - .... etc.bsa" files have a Last Modified date prior to the texture/mesh to be replaced.
E.g.: you have "Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa" 06/27/2006 and texture "C:...Oblivion/Data/Textures/Armor/ImperialWatch/M/Gauntlet.dds" 05/13/2006 (a texture replacement fix that comes with Unofficial Oblivion Patch), then the new .dds texture WON'T replace the old one in the original .bsa as expected because the original file has a Last Modified date newer than that!

I suggest to everyone to set Last Modified date of all the original .bsa files to year 2001 to solve this kind of conflicts with fixes or replacement texture/meshes very easily!

And........ changing file date is pain in my a**
Using window 8 and can't change file date
      Can't remove it date too
      Let me guess....
      Back to OBMM.........

EDIT : I have to use setfiledate program and yup it worked

YOU ARE A GOD AMONG MEN THANK YOU SO MUCH. No seriously. I could not flippin' figure out how to get things like body-replacers and DARN-UI to work on my Mac-ported wineskin version of Oblivion. It's cause all of my .bsa's had the same date as my install, so 2015! I replaced them with 2001 dates (google, "File Properties Editor for Mac" to download from cnet for free), and it all worked like a charm!

YUSSS. I'm so happy right now. I didn't know your fix was gonna fix Darn-UI, so when I got in game after making the changes, and saw Darn UI working, my mouth literally dropped open for like 5 straight minutes. THANK YOU.

I just installed again and this time I extracted all meshes and textures from the bsa files, installed them loose, then deleted the bsa files, and then overwrote with all the modifications... textures that do not exist are still showing up. I think I'm just gonna uninstall and dump it all. I'll just go play with a Roach Motel or something. Can't be any buggier than a Bethesda game. I've spent too many years fighting with Bethesda's bugs. Just plain sick of it anymore and don't have the patience for it.

Thank you very much! I wouldn't have found a way to change the file dates if you hadn't mentioned the program which makes it possible. Thank you!

Thank you very much for this comment. I wouldn't have been able to install the mod "Silver Sword Fix" that you had uploaded.

hey its been many many years but does anyone know what free software I can use to edit the last modified date of .bsa files? the main one I found you needed to pay premium to use that feature. (scummy)

I know how to fix this issue now but I dont have a way to edit the files. how did all the people in this comment section manage it?

You can use the Windows Command Prompt for this, or you can make a batch file that does the job. I did the latter.

I follow the instructions exactly. I double and triple checked them. This program absolutely does not work. Thumbs down. Fresh new  steam installation.

I'm just going to say this in case anyone else experiences the same problem I did. I'm using Mod Organizer, which is supposed to be able to handle ArchiveInvalidation automatically, but for some reason it wasn't. I downloaded this file and installed it as a mod using MO, but it didn't seem to be doing anything. HGEC body and OCOv2 weren't showing up, and the only thing that made those mods work was using the 'Back-date BSAs' feature in MO (which says it's only supposed to be used for skyrim... wierd). Anyway, all seemed fine, until I noticed that there were pink paches all over the terrain mostly near the Imperial City. Google searches turned up nothing useful. On a whim, I moved ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa from a mod folder in MO to the Oblivion/Data folder. this fixed it. I have no idea why, but i'm relieved that that's fixed now, it was quite irritating.

The data folder is the default install path for the AI BSA. Not sure why it was in your mods folder to begin with.

thanks for this. And for those who doesnt get what ThatCapedGuy said, try this method, which is more convenient IMO. The problem with contents not showing up generally can be solved by installing this mod (SkyBSA)  https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/49568
SkyBSA changes the way how the game handles BSA and loose resources in general, it just works  this requires latest version of xOBSE to work, so be sure to search and download it in the Github page..

Modding Oblivion is not like Skyrim or FO4.  It's a lot more complicated.  As someone new to this (using Wryebash an OBMM for the first time) I really wish the MA's would put some sort of instruction as to how to use the mods on the description page or in a readme file.  I downloaded the exe but have no idea where to put it or what to do with it.  I'm not even sure how to access the bsa to move it into my data folder... any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
