He looks like a young boy from a wealthy family. This interior reminds me of the Gray Fox's hideout, unless he's pondering his future in the Mages Guild. According to his appearance, he certainly does not dream of becoming a warrior or a knight...Nice attire and character.
I think you got it right, he comes from a family with an important name. And while he received a military education he's more interested in music and would rather be a bard. He's skilled in magic too btw.
Our thoughts meet, I even almost started my commentary with the idea that he was a bard but his gloves diverted me from my thought. Only leather gloves can protect the environment from poorly controlled magic... After all, my intuition tells me he has a bright future in magic. lol...
