About this image

Update

we changed a couple of groundcover pineappleplant textures to get this effect, using low res files, there is minimal fps drop.

to do,

place npcs at mithlond (greyhavens) place orcs at dol guldur.
place npcs at lorien, we have already placed several elven rangers in that area and in mirkwood.
possible inclusion of radagast the brown, tom bombadil and goldberry.

we have placed 3 large woods/forests around lorien and to the south up to the argonath gates - the Jackson film shows this so we thought it would take away the feeling of large open plains and be a little more immersive, which I am happy to say it is. The uruk hai warparty is nearby!
Gladden fields is finished.
fornost is finished.
Erebor and its underground is finished.
Treeebeards hill is finished.
Edoras is finished.
Access to the Dimholt is finished.
plus many other minor locations.

We will set this at the outbreak of the war of the ring. Boromir will be following the greyflood to Rivendell, Gimli will already be at Rivendell along with Legolas, Elrond and Arwen.
Aaragorn nearby bre as will also Gandalf, the 4 hobbits on route to Rivendell, location to be decided.
The attack on osgiliath allowed Sauron to send black riders to locate the ring of power, we have scattered them around.

We are unable to utilise the galadrim armor which is a blow as it crashes the construction set ( any ideas?) also the textures for the noldor armor are not in the original archives, another blow. If we cant solve this we will have to adapt some stock armor as a last recourse.
work continues.

This sounds amazing! Truly, this is some great work. Can't wait to see the results.

    A couple thoughts:

As much as Tom and Goldberry get a mixed response, I think it would be cool to include them as I suspect one of the big appeals of this project would be to trace the journeys of either Bilbo or Frodo through the world. Having those two would help make that possible.

When I used this mod back in the day, I remember the bridge in Hobbiton near Bywater had it spelled, "Hobitton." Can this be adjusted? This is an incredibly minor thing. Just thought I'd mention it.

Regardless. All of this is fantastic! Out of curiosity, have you added any settlements or easter eggs not in Tolkien (whatever the Tolkien version of "skeleton holding recipe for dangerous magical spell" is)?

Just curious. Best of luck with the rest of the project.

      Thanks again

We have placed tom and goldberry close to the (what I think is) Withwithy waterfall to the east of the old forest next to the Barrow downs as suggested by Tolkiens books.
The four hobbits are placed nearby on their way to bree.
As for easter eggs, we have tried to obey lore regarding the book rather than the film including as many characters and placings according to the outbreak of the war of the ring. There is a lot of disinformation particularly on you tube about these placings but we have done our research believe me. we might get some things wrong, any body expecting to relive the film will be disappointed in that although the merp team went to great lengths for a good rendering of it, oblivion has severe limitations. we wanted to limit scripts running, oblivion has problems with multiple npcs in combat. I think some of the fight animations especially when they flee which causes the game to slow down rapidly. We have tried to get around this by limiting npc numbers in specific locations, we found that some merp locations just do not like characters in their locale. maybe just an oblivion bug. I suppose that an easter egg is hard to define these days, certainly we are considering the placement of the rings with a clue book type hunt just for the fun of it. Currently working on Radagast and his home. I think all the hard work is done, we could have released an alpha before Christmas but this thing just builds and builds and we want to release the mod as complete as possible. we will not touch Mordor to any great extent but may add it on after the release also kazhad Dhum or moria really wants a total rebuild as it is a complete mess and does not fit in with our ideas on the book. work goes on

Brilliant response! I can't wait to discover the world you've built. And honestly, I'm glad you're sticking to the lore, for as much as I love the movies, the world of the books is indeed quite a bit different in some ways. I think after decades of the films, I'm quite happy for a different vision. I suppose one of the wonderful yet unfortunate things is that Tolkien's map has a lot of vast forests, grasslands, or mountains, which really contributes to the lovely wildness of the world...but that also means that although there must surely be things in them to find--ruins, hideouts, etc.--Tolkien never wrote those down. It's an interesting puzzle, but I'm sure whatever you do with it will be brilliant. Can't wait!

Looks like a very exciting roadmap (ha, I finally used this latest buzzword myself!) and even more exciting list of completed work. I'm still relentlessly cheerleading this project :D
