About this image

Yet to do something about the shitty wolf texture. We have placed a few of these around Wold near Fangorn. Dol Guldur in the distance.

I love what you're doing! Out of curiosity, I see on the Gandalf post that you're aiming to make him film-like. Is the film what you're looking to inspiration for the project as a whole? One thing I really loved about MERP back in the day was that it felt film-ish but not like a replica--some things lined up with the books rather than the films. And the films and the books are so unique from each other in some ways (like Tolkien's Rivendell being pretty different the film's Rivendell). So I'm just curious!

Anyway, it's so exciting to see this work and I hope you're able to share it eventually. I'd love to be able to play in this world with my dad, who first showed me these books. Cheers!

Thank you, its a labour of love. My dad started this mod a few years ago and he used to read the book to me as well. He is gone now and I guess the mod is an opportunity to honour him. As you might know he asked me to remove all his mods as he had become very ill and was annoyed that they had been pirated on a third party web site in contradiction to his wishes on this nexus site. If and when this mod is released we might restrict it to access by private message as we also dont want warners stomping all over us. We will see. As for the characters, we are going through a period of trying to make sense of the mod in relation to its origins re the book and film. The problem is that every one has an idea from the book that certain characters looked like, and so on, so an approximation is the best way and we dont have time to make gollum look like Andy Serkis lol.

Hey! Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry to hear about your dad, but glad to hear that you had the opportunity to share the book together. He did something amazing with MERP. Good luck in your continued work.

The one time I set up MERP and took my dad into it, we started at Bree and walked west. In a magical moment we stumbled into a rainy autumn glade and looked up at Bilbo's Trolls, and my dad got teary eyed. I think he really liked that it wasn't exactly like the movies but was it's own thing. We didn't get to play any farther (I didn't want to take him to an empty Rivendell), but if the chance comes round eventually, I'll definitely take him back.

I tend to think that part of the fun of playing in this world is seeing someone else's vision, so I wouldn't worry too much if characters or places differ from the films. I guess the films and the books are strange bedfellows, though--I get the sense that the movies are big, vibrant, and energetic, but the books are much more full of ruins and rain and wilderness. Must be interesting to fit together those worlds. Good luck!
