About this image

This is, in fact, a record for me in Oblivion. After a few months of intermittent play, I am still running around with the *same* character.. :D
She just hit level 23.. and because I slow levelling, this is actually something of a milestone for me.
But... I really like this character, and I'm enjoying my setup.. lots of fun, nice to look at, and shockingly stable.

      Thanks
      Cute picture too!

It sort of stuck me when I reached a certain point in the main quest last night, and managed to loot the Mundane Ring for the first time ever. I did a doubletake when I saw its stats.... which lead me to look around Google, and I read it only appears at higher levels.

I to play with way reduced experience points. This person I am playing now has almost like 16.5 hours in game and I'm just about to reach 6th level. I don't like to "farm" levels, skills or stats. I just get them from using skills and everyday living as I go. It makes the game a lot more difficult, but also, way more enjoyable. You really cherish an item of +5 extra damage, a +2 ring of somethings, 3% resist on another piece, even if you normally don't wear that type of "thing". You just mix and match as you go.

I started like I did for Fallout and Skyrim before. Ignore the main quest line and just play the game. On this play through, I consoled in a 25,000 septim bounty and am playing completely as an outlaw and no fast travel. Its very difficult.

I've never enjoyed farming levels/stats in any game.. and it's a large part of the reason I generally dislike MMOs. My usual approach in open world games is to have a backstory in mind, and then I very much wander, doing whatever happens to cross my path. In Oblivion, I use Realistic Levelling, which furthers my approach still more, because it makes all of that an "Out of sight, out of mind" thing.

As to Oblivion's main quest.. like many people, I've never been all that wild on it, but I really *really* want to try out the "Reclaiming Sancre Tor" mod, which requires completion of the MQ.

But yeah.. when you don't grind/farm in these games it makes them *MUCH* more enjoyable. I also find that in Skyrim it helps add challenge, because if you don't level enchanting/smithing all those random items you find are actually useful, and you're pleased upon acquiring them.

Woah... I ought to try an outlaw RP like that sometime, sounds like a ton of fun. I think, actually that Arthmoor's Alternate Beginnings even has a scenario like that.

Yes Arthmoor does have start as a bandit, but I preferred the left for dead starting play. You literally have nothing. If you console in a bounty, it makes for a really difficult, but overly gratifying play through. I get so used to using the console to bypass the initial MQ, i don't even know what it is if it triggers before i console through it.

      Thank you
Beneath the youthful and slightly innocent face.. she's actually quite hardened and has seen much.. since (in my head canon) she is also Morrowind's Nerevarine. It must be the fact that she's a Dunmer.. it belies her age and experience.
