it wasn't that difficult after all; with <zoom>-1</zoom> in the xml the texture in the container gets automatically scaled;
regarding moving it to the right side: here I really have a problem since not everyone has my monitor size; and I don't know how I get the monitors size via script; and if I set a fixed gap size then it's possible that someone with a smaller monitor has the bar outside his screen .. but again I'll see what I can do; maybe adding the size of the compass width
good job with gimp by the way .. for some seconds I was a bit confused till I got it that you've made it with gimp
