Really like this mod, actually gives you a reason to switch to a weapon upgrade instead of just using your mining laser on everything lol. One thing I noticed though is you can still do damage to any ground creatures. Like the fish(ish) creatures that "swim" above and below the surface. Aswell as the tentacle creature things that come up out of the ground. Prolly more but those are the ones I have noticed so far in the general area around me on the current planet. Would it be possible to get those creature types flagged as immune to the mining laser too? and maybe have this same effect carry over to the exocraft mining laser? give a reason to use the cannon on your exocrafts too :) thanks again for the awesome mods. Thanks for your report. tentacles are a specific type of creatures called fiends. I'm not sure I covered them in this mod. weird fish(ish) creatures are proc gen ones that were added after the creation of this mod so they probably aren't covered either. I will see if I can add them to this mod.
Thanks a ton. Im trying to learn the script and code to make changes on my own when needed. So I dont have to ask this great modding community for any lol. But Im guessing the true/false flag for mining laser damage is buried deep in the creature list code
I understand the idea behind this mod. But the example is kinda weak, real life mining drills are used for cracking rocks but not a bit less efficient in cracking skulls.
It's mainly a reason to switch multitools modes and not being always ready for any encounter when you are mining. I don't feel "logical" to be able to mine and kill with the same mode when there's a dedicated mode for each.
I'm noting it down to remind about it as soon as possible (I gave it a try after your first comment but I couldn't find any easy way back then) PS : I looked at it again and I believe the only way is to edit each and every creature entity files...
Out of curiosity - we are sure it doesn't break the Living Ship quest, where you have to mine special resource from creatures, via special attachment to mining laser?
Hi Lo2k, can find a way for make every creature hostile to the player ? Even bird and fish. I mean, don't put the predator kind only, just modifie the attitude of every alien. I saw some creatures attack me by defence, like the alpha try to save his pack when i massacre his familly, maybe it's possible to make them automaticaly attack use when they detect use. Can you think about it ?
I tried something that kind before, sadly if you do so, it changes all creatures to predator-like ones (I mean, graphically) because that's the function that determines the appearance.
I personally think the distinction is important. Too often I find myself using the mining laser for everything except for shooting the odd weapon locked door. It makes the weapons almost pointless. I'd suggest disabling the blood (if possible) when the beam hits as blood is associated with damage.
I came across this while looking for something else last night. METADATA/EFFECTS/PLANETEFFECTS.MBIN Look for "Blood Splat" There's a few other "Blood" references in that file too but I'm not sure if they are for creatures as well.
thats' the blood end effect but if you remove it from here, it will also remove hit from real gun hits. So we need to find the file which choose to display blood splats using laser only.
Huh. I kinda like the idea of this...a little extra challenge, and possibley a little extra immersion too! I would imagine that a mining tool/lazer of highly advanced technological origins, would come equipped with a safety feature, so that the mining lazer couldn't accidentally harm the miner, nor other miners, and other living creatures too!
