App Roundup - July 2025

  • Comment
We’re back once again with more updates to the Nexus Mods app. Halgari talked us through even more new features and improvements based on your feedback. So here’s a rundown of it all:

Key Features

Change Mod Storage Location

One of the most requested features is now available: the ability to change where your mods are stored. You can now specify your preferred storage location within the settings. However, there is an important note: you’ll need to manually move your files after changing the location and restart the app. While we plan to improve this feature in the future and automate the process, for now, this gives you more control over where your mods are stored. We have a help page available if you need it.

Enhanced Mod Search

If you’ve got a long list of mods in your Library, finding the one you need can be tricky. So, we’ve added a search bar to make this much easier. You can now search by mod name, file size, version number, or even how long ago a mod was downloaded. For example, if you're looking for a specific mod or even if you want to find mods from a few days ago, the search functionality will help you find them quickly. The best part? It’s fast, even with hundreds of mods in your library. We’re also planning on expanding this search feature with more filtering options in future updates.

Collections for Better Mod Organisation

We’ve also started working on collections, a much-anticipated feature. Every user starts with a default collection called "My Mods," where all installed mods are stored. However, you can now create additional collections for specific sets of mods, such as a texture pack or gameplay overhaul collection. In a future release, you’ll also be able to share these collections with others. The system is still being refined, but we’re excited to see how this feature helps improve mod organisation. Soon, you’ll be able to fork collections created by other users, making it even easier to share and modify mods.

What’s Next?

Here’s a look at what the team is working on:

  • More Collection Features: We’re continuing to improve the collection creation process, including ways to make collections more stable and reliable.
  • Epic Games Store Support: We’re working on Epic Games Store support, starting with Cyberpunk 2077.
  • Mod Storage Improvements: We’re adding more options for storing your mods, allowing you to move them more easily between locations and ensure that everything stays organised.

We’re always working to improve your modding experience, and we appreciate all the feedback we’ve received. We’ve made a lot of progress this month, but there’s still more to come. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, keep the feedback coming. We’ll be back next month with more news.

Not sure if anyone has suggested this, so apologies if I'm late to the party.

Sorting and LO (Load Order)... needs to be handled way better than it is now. I'm not saying you steal another's idea, but being able to manually manipulate your order AND without letting LOOT change anything by it's own rules, would be really nice.

If you cannot drag n drop, then simply adding a LO number so say, a mod that needs to be loaded last doesn't end up in the middle... or perhaps an INI file that can be modified manually but cannot be overwritten by LOOT. Things like Bashed Patch, FixCubeMaps or other patches that need to be loaded last for their purpose to shine thru.

I was always curious as to, "does using 'must load after'" mean that it will remain last if I install even more mods?

Oh.. .and that video... wow, I mean, my machine hosts a 16C/32T CPU and a 4070 Super and with only 300+ mods (game resides on a 3500MB NVMe), takes about five minutes to load before I can start playing... I could only imagine if I hit 800. :)

Hey, keep up the good work, NexusMods is simply legendary!

But there's one thing I still miss, & it's very important for us modders:
„When will it be possible to find all comments ever posted under mods via your own profile?!“

I only ever find out about a comment I posted and forgot about when someone replies to it.
In other words, I would like to track my posted comments. -_-

I love this app! But one Thing, that i hate is, when a update of a mod is installed. Ther are two of them, the old and the New. Can u make it auto activate the new?

Is this completely replacing Vortex? Or, will support remain for Vortex?

Vortex will continue to be supported in the mid-term, but in the long term, we are looking to mothball it as the app supports more and more games. We'll be communicating any updates on this through the site news, so it shouldn't come as a surprise!

Let us change the default Staging folder.

Been waiting for this since Vortex existed.

Already made the suggestion, it seems it wasn't accepted. Please add a way to change the default Staging folder.

Vortex has a toggle to use a recommended folder (instead of AppData on C:\) but you have to enable it in settings. If you're having problems, please post in the Vortex forums.

This post is about the app, which is the eventual successor to Vortex.

Nexus Mods has made my gaming experience much better over the years. The App made managing the MOD's much easier and it is good to see your work on it continuing. It's sad how many games launch as a buggy mess, the worst for me is the original & LE editions of the Mass Effect series. That was the main reason I decided NM was more than worth paying for a premium account years ago. The Modding community here makes so many games playable and/or more fun and enjoyable. Such as the Full Conversion MOD's for Grim Dawn, as one example.

Sincere thanks to the NM team and the Modders!
