Win an RTX 3070 Ti and more with Republic of Gamers UK

  • Comment
Do scalpers keep beating you to that new graphics card? Perhaps you're looking to upgrade that tired old keyboard and mouse? We might have just the thing for you! We've teamed up with Republic of Gamers UK to give you the chance to win an RTX 3070 Ti, one of two ROG accessory bundles or a £50 Steam gift card.

Nexus Mods was officially founded on 1 August 2001, so this month is extra special for us. We're celebrating our 20th anniversary! This event is a great way to celebrate our journey from a humble Morrowind modding website to now being the biggest modding community on the internet - bringing together over 28 million members from all over the world to share in our joint hobby and love for all things modding.

If you've ever looked at pre-built gaming PCs or modded your own PC with some new hardware, you might already be familiar with ROG. For those who haven't heard of them though, Republic of Gamers was founded by an elite team of ASUS engineers with the aim to create the world's best gaming experiences. They specialise in high-quality hardware and peripherals built specifically for gamers. We got chatting with folks at the UK office of ROG and while talking about our mutual love of modding, they offered to provide us with some of their awesome products to give away to our community. These might be the biggest prizes we've ever been able to offer to you all, so a massive thank you to ROG UK for partnering with us!

We've split the prizes across 3 separate categories you can enter between 10 August 2021 and 10 October 2021. You can enter just one or all three. If you submit a mod you can enter it into both modding categories too (if applicable). Full details are below!

Main Category

This is the big one! Upload a new mod to Nexus Mods between 10 August 2021 - 10 October 2021 and add the tag "20 Years of Modding 2021" to your page for your chance to win the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics card, a bundle of ROG peripherals or a £50 Steam gift card. All prizes also include a coveted Nexus Mods drink receptacle.

Prize Details

How To Enter

  1. Upload a mod for any game (mods containing adult content are excluded from the draw).
  2. On the "Mod Details" step, tick the option to enter into the draw OR add the tag "20 Years of Modding 2021" from the mod page.
  3. Publish your mod and cross your fingers!

Winner Selection

All mods uploaded during the event which include the "20 Years of Modding 2021" tag at the end of the entry period will be reviewed by our team. A curated selection will be entered into a randomised draw to determine the 3 winners. When curating the mod entries, we will be looking at a number of factors to judge the eligibility for the final draw, including:

  • Site metrics - Download counts and endorsements.
  • Game popularity - To ensure game communities of all sizes have a fair chance of entry.
  • Originality - Does this mod bring something new to the modding scene?
  • Effort - How difficult was the mod to make? How much time went into the mod page?

The lucky winners will be contacted by private message on the Nexus Mods website shortly after the event concludes to arrange delivery of the prizes.

Themed Mod Category

As a bonus, our friends at ROG have included an additional prize bundle for modders who create mods that capture the essence of the ROG brand. They have provided an asset bundle containing an assortment of logos and wallpapers to help you build the theme into your mods and to give you an idea of the colours and styles you should be looking to include. The criteria for entry is intentionally ambiguous to allow you to be as creative as possible, so take a look at the assets provided and see what you can come up with. Once you've made your mod, all you need to do to enter is upload it and add the "ROG Theme Event 2021" tag to your mod page before 10 October 2021

Here are some very basic ideas for mods that would be a good fit for this category:

  • A spell or other magical effect using the ROG colours (and possibly the logo).
  • Outfits or technology featuring ROG brand elements or a general "cyberpunk" vibe.
  • Everything is cooler with RGB lights.
  • Maybe you can even find a creative use for the ROG theme song?

Prize Details

How To Enter

  1. Upload a mod that includes ROG elements for any game (mods containing adult content are excluded from the draw).
  2. On the "Mod Details" step, tick the option to enter into the draw OR add the tag "ROG Theme Event 2021" from the mod page.
  3. Publish your mod and cross your fingers!

Winner Selection

Mods uploaded during the event which include the "ROG Theme Event 2021" tag will be reviewed by the Nexus Mods and ROG teams to select a winner. The winner will then be contacted by private message on the Nexus Mods website shortly after the event concludes to arrange delivery of the prizes.

A single mod can be entered into both modding categories, but can only win one prize.

Themed Image Category

If you're not able to make a mod but you still want to take part in the event, we're also running a screenshot competition. Just like the modding category above, this will be ROG themed. Your challenge is to create a screenshot for a game of your choice which fits in nicely with the ROG vibe. You can use the asset pack for inspiration or even showcase mods shared in the Themed Mods Category in new or exciting ways.

Prize Details

  • Prize 1 - Small Bundle 2: £50 Steam Gift Card + Nexus Mods mug

How To Enter

  1. Upload an image for any game (adult content is excluded from the draw).
  2. Make sure the title starts with "ROG Screenshot Event".
  3. Submit your image!

Winner Selection

All images uploaded during the event which have titles starting with "ROG Screenshot Event" will be reviewed by our team and a curated selection will be entered into a randomised draw to determine the winner. Images will be judged on their appropriate use of the ROG theme/colour schemes and general composition.

Hello! Don't you want to announce at least an approximate date for summing up the results!? People are impatient! I'm waiting peacefully sipping a martini, But someone stares at the monitor all day updating this page, I'm sure of it! We need approximate dates :) I personally thought that the results would be summed up in the specified date. Immediately. And the works will be evaluated as they arrive.

It's taking a while to go through all the entries (~2,500) and I'm waiting to hear back from ROG for their picks too.

"Effort - How difficult was the mod to make?"

Exactly how do you determine something like that? what's difficult for one person might be easy for another. that seems rather vague and something you wouldn't know unless you talk to the mod author. A simple retexture can be difficult and a learning process for a person who's never done it before.

    "Download counts and endorsements."

seems rather exclusionary to any mod uploaded around the deadline. are they really going to get any meaningful amount of downloads and endorsements to qualify in that time? are any mods other than highly popular ones even going to qualify?

"Does this mod bring something new to the modding scene?"

does it have to? how do you define that? In the flood of armor, weapon, home, and follower mods, how many actually bring something "new to the modding scene".

"To ensure game communities of all sizes have a fair chance of entry. "

If this is true than why does a games popularity matter at all? and your other criteria kind of erase the idea of a fair chance.

Honestly my hopes weren't high for winning, but now i'm not sure if i should have even bothered entering my mods at all. /shrug

I didn't read the "winner selection" section, so I thought the GPU giveaway was actually based on a random draw. As a result, I uploaded a lame dds file that would never win right before the contest's dealine lol. I wouldn't have bothered if I had read the rules closely and understood that the mods would be judged on their quality. A mod contest for a GPU is a cool idea but for this one the rules shouldn't have said anything about being random.

They didn't say it was 100% random.  They said they would choose randomly among qualifying mods.

    What's meant by curated?

I've a concern about that because if submissions need to be approved, then that kind of defeats the purpose of a random draw and acts as a gatekeeping apparatus. I understand that you don't want mods which literally don't work to enter or a text file or something else which is absurdly low effort...but there's got to be a better, more defined way of handling this than 'we have to approve of your mod'.

Any mod can be entered, but the "Winner Selection" section covers this:

"When curating the mod entries, we will be looking at a number of factors to judge the eligibility for the final draw, including:

      • Site metrics - Download counts and endorsements.
      • Game popularity - To ensure game communities of all sizes have a fair chance of entry.

      • Effort - How difficult was the mod to make? How much time went into the mod page?"

Yeah, but that's still kinda black-box as far as criteria go.  I've gotta agree with DankTemplar, here: Even after I got to that part of the new post, I still felt like the "random draw" wasn't entirely random.

At least releasing something about how you're using those metrics would be helpful.  For example, do you only make it in if you net at/above the "average" download counts for a mod of the game in question?  Or is it more complicated than that?

Thank you for the clarification. I definitely don't agree with the premise of your criteria. They are awfully strict and obtuse - but I understand the intent which makes sense (keeping low effort trash mods out of the draw pool and spreading the draw pool out over the entire site).

I hope that if Nexus does any draws in the future that there's less gatekeeping involved with the criteria. Truly random draws are preferable because random is fair and unbiased, bar having some basic criteria which make sense such as no text files, guides, ENB presets, non-functional mods or other types of mods which would be deemed too low effort and would just clog the draw pool while leading to a potential upset if say, someone's Skyrim character preset mod grabbed the RTX 3070 TI.

      Best regards;

Agree, Looking at how difficult the mod was to make etc is subjective in that, for someone with less knowledge, a simple mod can take a lot of effort and time. While others seem to be a genius in the field have study backgrounds in coding or 3D model making etc. The persons free time is also a factor. Some need to hold down full time jobs or work and study at the same time while others may have nothing but free time to build their mod learn the tools needed.

IMO, a comp like this should be a random draw to an extent, in say like, Mods from the period of the whole comp that made it in to the top 5 (or 3 even) of "Hot Mods" on the week of their release, them limit the entries to one per user.

I guess I mostly feel this way because I am not someone that makes huge dlc sized mods with quests etc. If I was, I'd probably feel opposite in that the time and effort should be the rewarding factor.. but lets be honest, 99% of modders are not in that 1% of these elite tier modders/teams.
