LUMENARIUM : Sunglasses that Work and Reasons to Wear 'Em!

Y'know something? Fallout New Vegas takes place in a desert. In my entire life I have never managed to walk outside in a damn dessert on a clear day at high noon without sunglasses. The game has sunglasses, but they do nothing and you really have no reason to wear them - why? Because the DAY isn't bright enough - until now.

LUMENARIUM is a package of functioning day-darkening sunglasses and 'clear day' brighteners.

Every LUMENARIUM Sunglass features advanced functionality, including the patent-pending PERCEPTIONPlus anti-glare coating.

LUMENARIUM features PREMIUM Sunglasses and offers FREE introductory DIMMERS.

Visit the LUMENARIUM VENDING STATION and SALES REPRESENTATIVE beside the PROSPECTOR SALOON in GOODSPRINGS.

For years, the LUMENARIUM brand name has been synonymous with high-quality sunglasses that feature incredible enhancements to help you on your way through the Wastelands both far and wide.

In-game, what this means is that I've taken VANILLA sunglasses and bolstered them to be both cosmetically and strategically useful.

The Sales Representative at GoodSprings offers our PREMIUM line of specs at a great price!

Directly next to her is our TRIAL station which offers day-dimming sunglasses while maintaining the Vanilla perks.

LUMENARIUM is now a package of THREE mods in order to maintain compatibility with a variety of weather mods and in order to offer a variety of experiences:

LUMENARIUM - WORKING SUNGLASSES ONLY.ESP

This is the MAIN MOD. It includes the glasses, their effects, the sunflare, graphics and information regarding the sales rep, the vending station and the billboards.

The mod also provides "upgrades" Vanilla Sunglasses to LUMENARIUM-brand. Each of the LUMENARIUM SUNGLASSES comes with unique enhancements and daylight dimmers.

Equip them in the PIP-BOY APPAREL tab and the world gets dimmer - and you get a little bit better at one thing or other.

This component can be used without the other two, but in my opinion, without brighter days there's no good reason for sunglasses that dim the screen.

Unequip them and the world gets brighter and you go back to normal.

The sunglasses work like real sunglasses. Leave them on when you're inside and it'll be a bit too dark. Wear 'em at night and you'll bump into things.

I assigned a hotkey to mine for ease of use and I suggest you do the same.

LUMENARIUM SPECS are breakable/repairable/removable, but no matter if you lose yours, they also respawn at the vending machine and are found on some NPCs (those NPCs with the good-taste and sense to wear them).

LUMENARIUM - BRIGHT CLEAR DAYS.ESP

This component adds the DAY BRIGHTENER to the game. Once activated, the mod automatically makes some weather-variants and certain times-of-day bright enough to merit wearing sunglasses. It ONLY effects CLEAR days so you're not wearing sunglasses in the rain.

Try staring into the sun now, big fella.

LUMENARIUMandELECTROCITY - NEVADA SKIES REPLACER.ESP

This component REPLACES the NEVADA SKIES ESP in your load-order. It is a complete duplicate of the original file with some minor alterations to make it play-nice with LUMENARIUM.

If you are not into using NEVADA SKIES, then don't use this. If you are not using LUMENARIUM - BRIGHT CLEAR DAYS, then don't use this.

ELECTRO-CITY is my other mod that utilizes this replacer and if you're not using it, don't worry about it. I just made my life easier by having one file work with both. Also, I think it makes it less confusing for people using both LUMENARIUM and ELECTRO-CITY.

The "brightener" works in conjunction with the in-game weather-cycle. Sometimes on a clear day it will be maddeningly bright and other times it will be a lovely day with no need for sunglasses.

You won't need the sunglasses on hazy days, indoors, or in places like The Strip. The brightness fades with the in-game weather so the transitions are smooth.

PLEASE bear in mind that your viewing experience will be different than mine. Adjust your GAMMA or your monitor accordingly. At the height of noon, you should still be able to see things reasonably well except objects in the far-distance. And yes, it's bright... ha... put on your glasses.

I prefer to play with IMPS TIMESCALE ADJUSTER set to 10 (http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34718) so the transitions are nice and long but LUMENARIUM works with any timescale.

This is a work in progress as I tweak and twiddle the settings, add new things and generally mess-about. I may take requests so chime in with a comment.

V5A :

ALTERED the way BRIGHT DAYS are rendered so as to not be so harsh but to still get the point across. Woo!

V4G:

REMOVED : Slight "blur" on the edges when wearing LUMENARIUM glasses. I found that this could impact FPS when combined with some other mods.

V4F:

UPDATED : Compatibility "replacer" for NEVADA SKIES 0-6-3. No other alterations so if you'd don't use NEVADA SKIES, don't waste the bandwidth ;)

v4E:
FIXED : NSKIES 062 days now get brighter - whereas in V4D they just got less saturated.
REMOVED : The light over the LUMENARIUM billboard.

v4D:

UPDATED : Compatibility "replacer" for NEVADA SKIES 0-6-2. No other alterations so if you'd don't use NEVADA SKIES, don't waste the bandwidth ;)

v4C:
UPDATE : Now compatible with NEVADA SKIES 0-6-1
ADDED : SUNGLASSES ONLY esp

I changed the package slightly to make it easier for me to keep up with alterations from the most popular weather mods.

v4b:
FIXED : NEVADA SKIES Replacer. The file is now included in the MAIN download file. The "replacer" is the complete NEVADA SKIES 0-6, as such you needn't load both the original and this one.

ADDED : OPTIONAL : A fantastic new palette from Tapio for FNV ENHANCED SHADERS.

TWEAKED : DAYLIGHT SETTINGS for UWRL.

v4a:
Dimmed Daytime somewhat more.
ADDED : COMPATIBILITY PATCH for NEVADA SKIES mod and OPTIONAL NEVADA SKIES Night Darkener.
ADDED : OPTIONAL : Palette for FNV ENHANCED SHADERS

-----

v3a:
Totally streamlined and all FNVEDIT errors are removed.
Removed "L" opening screen as well as repathing some loading graphics.

-----

V2a:
I've added some more fun-stuff. For one, now there is a sales-rep who sells the Premium LUMENARIUMS. Premium LUMENARIUMS all feature enhancements to make your travels easier but do cost some caps. Each version offers a little something different.

ADDED : By request, I've also added functionality (and a new name) to the Authority Glasses.

ADDED : A free brochure - in the vending station - may help explain more of the features.

ADDED : If you don't want to pay for sunglasses, free ones with no enhanced functionality are available in the VENDING MACHINE. They're called DIMMERS.

ISSUE : Having an issue in FNEDIT with unused portions of the mod returning errors. It has no impact on the functionality and I'll deal with it next time around, I'm just kinda tired of looking at the screen today. Anyone good with GECK?

------

V1B:

Damnit! For those of you who are further ahead in the game than I am, I present:

"DR. LI'S BRIGHT-RIGHT FOR HELMETS AND ARMOR"

It works the same way only it does not occupy a "space" (in GECK) on your character's head so it won't conflict with helmets - or make you take the helmet off just to use LUMENARIUM.

If you already have a pair of LUMENARIUMS, get rid of them and go snag the BRIGHT-RIGHT. In point of fact, the BRIGHT-RIGHT will probably work with any other glasses including new custom mods.

BRIGHT-RIGHT is available in the vending machine in GOODSPRINGS.

UPDATED: The names of LUMENARIUM'S Celebrity Endorsed Products. The glasses are the same, but the names are different.

ADDED: There's a Brochure in the vending machine that'll explain.

ADDED: A new SUN GLARE. A sun-glare worthy of the brighter days and dust-covered sunglasses.

ADDED: Swapped a few load-screens.

---------

V1A:

Version 1A is apparently fully functional, play tested and theoretically ready for the world. Going forward, I may add different tints to different specs.

I'm always interested in feedback, so feel free to comment or PM me. Obviously I can't consider every option, so your input is welcome!

Pretty much the same as every other mod.

Open the archive, copy all of it into the DATA folder.

Be sure to have a clean save before Updating... just in case.

LOAD-ORDER:

A detailed README is provided in the package.

LUMENARIUM is now totally compatible with:

FELLOUT (http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34888)

URWL (http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35570)

EMPIRICAL WEATHER (http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35260)

VANILLA

F:NV ENHANCED SHADERS (http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34868)

NEVADA SKIES (with the REPLACER file)

And should work with any others.

I expect that most of the above mods will continue to develop and I'll try to keep pace a bit as necessary.

NIGHT/ENHANCED VISION MODS : LUMENARIUM should work with them so long as they don't use the in-game sunglasses. If they do, whichever MOD is last in the load order will "win".

INVENTORY SORTERS : LUMENARIUM is absolutely designed to work with Inventory Sorters, just place LUMENARIUM AFTER any inventory sorters.

FRAME RATE FRIENDLY!

========

TO UNINSTALL LUMENARIUM (in whole or in part):

Remove the ESP from your load order.

Remove the LUMENARIUM folder from DATA/TEXTURES

Remove the LOADING folder from DATA/TEXTURES/INTERFACE (LOADING SCREENS can be removed without impacting the mod)

Remove nv_sunglare.dds from DATA/TEXTURES/SKY
(The SUNGLARE can be removed without impacting the mod)

Remove BillboardBlank.dds from DATA/TEXTURES/CLUTTER/BILLBOARDS
(The BILLBOARD can be removed without impacting the mod, but then the sign beside the sales-rep will revert to the Vanilla "blank" texture)

As a precaution, I also recommend removing and disposing of your LUMENARIUM SPECS in-game before you remove the mod. I can't see how it'd do anything to keep them as they should just revert to VANILLA, but y'know, you never know.

LUMENARIUM in GECK has three Image Space Modifiers and are easily adjustable if you so desire. Since everyone's taste and displays are different, I thought some of you might like to know how to fiddle with it yourself.

Effectively, what LUMENARIUM does is override the the IMAGESPACEMODIFIER "NVWastelandIS" with a brighter version. Simple.

In Nevada Skies, Yossarian chose to not use a day imagespacemodifier, so (with his permission) I simply added a "blank" version into his ESP which can now be "overridden" by the LUMENARIUM version.

Did that makes sense? haha.

Play around with it if you'd like and if you come up with anything snazzy, let me know:

Imagespace Modifiers:

NVWastelandIS : The in game "day" modifier that most weather mods use.
AAALumenariumISFX : Is the day brightener.
AAASunglassesDIMMER : Is the sunglasses dimmer w/tint.
AAASunglassesDIMMERNIGHTS : Is a dimmer for nights. I prefer my nights darker than Vanilla and as a function of how weather cycles work in the game-engine, I had no choice but to add a dimmer for the weather-cycles LUMENARIUM affects.

ARMOR: The LUMENARIUM Dimmer effect was placed on these.
