About this mod

Restore the Displacer Glove to its intended role as a soundshocks-based weapon that use Energy Cells. Include a new impact effect, new sound files, a SEC consuming system, and many small bug fixs to the glove.

"The Displacer Glove is an unarmed weapon consisting of a black-and-red-colored electronic glove with a mounted technological apparatus that can push the target back upon impact of a punch, possibly done via a concentrated sonic blast emitted from the speaker situated on the knuckle."

Intro:

The Displacer glove is an acoustic weapon. As a student in the field of Electroacoustics, i can assure you that the design is based on the (unfeasable but original) idea of a set of powerful and directive loudspeakers, all placed on a pressure plate and powered by a small energy cell (that can be seen in the wrist part of the weapon), all blasting at once when said pressure plate is activated through a punch and presumably stunning and disorientating the target (as well as pushing it back through the shock force of the acoustic blast).

This being said, this idea was definitely botched in New Vegas, with the shock effect being identical to the Gauss rifle blue effect, the sound being not very representative of a sonic weapon, and worse, the Energy cell consuming system being scrapped by the developers (as said by Sawyer).

As the biggest fan of the Displacer Glove, i have thus decided to rework and adjust the glove, fixing the numerous bugs and errors it had (wrong pip boy icons, wrong animations, Power Fist punch sounds...), as well as reimplementing the idea of it being a sound weapon (new effects and sounds) and of course recreating the Small Energy Cell consuming system. Here it is!

Overview:

  • Give the Displacer glove new impact effects and sounds: you are now indeed blasting loudspeakers to your enemies face!
  • The Displacer glove will now consume Energy cells each time you successfully hit an enemy, and will be useable only if you have SEC!
  • Numerous bugs of the Displacer glove now fixed to make it a more pleasant weapon to play with!
  • All new additions also affect the unique variant: Pushy!
  • A patch for my Caesar's Unique Displacer glove mod is also available!

Detailed content:

An acoustic weapon:
The Displacer glove is now really an acoustic weapon. The blast effects are now pale transparent white instead of blue (sound has no colors but white is far more representative of a sonic shockblast), and the sound played upon impact are recreations of sonic shocks, with 3 differents variations present.

A SEC-based gadget:
The Displacer Glove (and Pushy of course) now makes use of Small Energy Cells as it was once intended to. Each time you successfully strike an enemy (dead ones included) with an acoustic blast (now only active when punching organic targets); a single Small Energy Cell will be removed from your inventory. Once you have exhausted all your spare SEC Ammo, you will forcibly unequip the glove and receive a custom message (message varies should you be in combat or out-combat), and won't be able to reequip it unless you obtain new SEC.
When your reserve of SEC fall down to only 10 cells, you will receive a small warning message, enabling you to keep track on your dwindling reserves before squandering it all.

A double-edged weapon:
You are punching your enemies with a powerful louspeaker. No matter how directive it may be, your ear-drums are going to suffer a bit from constant proximity to soundblasts. Each successful punch is going to damage your head a tiny bit, forcing you to use the Displacer glove with caution. The upside? 15 additional damage points for both the Displacer Glove (now 65 Damage) and Pushy (now 75 Damage) as they also deal heavy damage to enemies ear-drums!

Miscellaneous bug and errors fixes:
Several bugs and errors affecting the Displacer glove are now fixed. The Pip boy icon used is now the correct one (and Pushy has its own unique icon) instead of the Ballistic fist's, and the hydraulics sounds heard during the regular punches (meant for the Power fist) are now removed. The attack animation is also corrected to its right type and the weapon is now considered a loud weapon.
