What is this? Why have you re-uploaded textures?

This is a complete texture overhaul pack for both the base game and DLC, you can install the base set textures, or both if you have the DLC. This works with Viva New Vegas which is an incredibly stable build if you are interested. This is my 'Go To' build for a modern and Stable New Vegas experience.

No credit goes to me, all credit goes to DcCharge for providing the original textures which are found here, and Estuansis for his time and effort spent replying in the comments sections, and lastly everybody involved in Viva New Vegas (VNV) as it is so damn reliable in terms of build quality! What I have done is cleaned up (removed) unnecessary files for much better stability and performance, and compiled it for you as I could see many people requesting a 'lazy' download.

The goal was to provide a 'plug & play' pack that could be used alongside very reliable builds such as Viva New Vegas. Of course you can use the texture pack without VNV as well if you wish.

How do you know this works with Viva New Vegas Extended? Have you actually tested this?

I have completed an entire run through of the game including all of the DLC. I am specifically using this optimised texture pack as I wanted better visuals.

Unfortunately I found that the original packs contained unnecessary files which caused crashes on the VNV Build, so I have cleaned them to prevent you having to do this.....this is here to make life easy.

What is the order you used on the Viva New Vegas Extended Mod Organiser 2 Tool?

I'm not an expert by any means, but I personally placed them directly under the 'Utilities' section of the guide so that all mods after these texture packs could overwrite any textures that have already been included as a part of VNV.

I have had a successful run through with minimal performance issues, and have played for hours on end without issue. (For reference I am playing on a RTX 4090 + 13900K). I understand fallout is 'temperamental' therefore some of you will have different outcomes, but I can confidently say I have had the most reliable experience running 'Viva New Vegas Extended' + this texture pack placed below the 'Utilities' section of the VNV guide.

What have you removed, and what have you added?

All normal files removed: _n.ddg and _n.dds

All glowmaps removed: _g.dds

All environment maps removed: _m.dds

All LOD files removed: _lod

A couple of the textures I replaced with 4x textures as they look awesome, and for the small performance overhead it was worth the upgrade:

Replaced the 2x Interface textures with 4x interface textures.

Replaced the 2x Armour pack with 4x Armors pack.

Why did you choose 2x and not 4x textures:

4x is far too resource heavy, to elaborate, 2x textures are already 200% scaling, and comes out to 4x the standard texture sizes. 2x will provide you a sharp image, huge improvements over vanilla while having less of an impact in comparison to 4x packs. Only the armour and interface is 4x with all _n.ddg, _n.dds, _g.dds, _m.dds & _lod files removed to save wasted memory. Trying to use 4x/4K textures just brings too many headaches with little benefit.

How do I Install this, I'm confused?

If your planning on a first time play through, I recommend first installing a fresh copy of Fallout New Vegas, then carefully following the build guide for 'Viva New Vegas' - Once the game is confirmed stable, you can continue with 'Viva New Vegas Extended' which will add all of the extra mods using the same guide. Once your copy of the game is stable, then install both of these texture packs using MO v2 (Mod Organiser 2) and place them near the top of the mod list under 'Utilities' in its own group called 'Texture Pack' (Between 'Utilities' and 'bug fixes') - If the game remains stable - congratulations you now have a better looking New Vegas!! - If you start getting crashes I recommend you play without the texture packs as it may be a hardware limitation (e.g. GPU does not have enough memory, or your system is struggling....in which case there is not much you can do other than leave the game setup with VNV without textures, or select specific textures from other mods that are smaller with less performance impacts e.g. armour only, clothing only etc....

If you have a powerful gpu with a decent amount of VRAM e.g. 3080/3090/4080/4090/7900XT/7900XTX - you should be able to run this exact setup reliably! but I cannot speak for you all...... Good Luck ! Have Fun ! and Be Kind !

Can I install this without running the Viva New Vegas build guide?
Yes, if you feel the need....but I don't recommend it... I highly recommend at least following the VNV Base build setup for reliability if your goal is for a  'Minimalistic' build.
