About this mod

Were you underwhelmed when first entering the BOS Headquarters back in 2009? I know I wasn't, it was the best thing ever. But it is 2024 and I just thought the place needed a spiff up. After all, how do a handfull of soldiers living in squalor defeat the Enclave? With this mod, at the least you can pretend the LW doesn't do all the work.

I've been on the Nexus for 10 years, downloaded thousands of mods. And though endorsing is a great help to the community, I felt that this 10 year threshold warranted a contribution from me. This mod is my small contribution. Please always endorse mods you download. Thank you NexusMods.

Description

Exterior :

The mod adds defenses to the bridge leading to the Citadel entrance, defenses around the Citadel perimeter, a few new NPC guards (with BOS guard dogs, which had been cut from the game), Robots with patrol routes, more exterior lighting and finally, aesthetic changes. Re-navmeshed accordingly.

Bailey :

Added clutter where sensible, new BOS Sentinel, two Robots now patrol the bailey, and added lights. I wanted to illuminate the bailey a lot more, however, the light limit is very austere there so I had to make concessions.

Interior :

Comprehensive overhaul of interior lighting of the Lab, A and B rings. Added clutter within reason, made the place seem more technological and habitable instead of a... putrescent cesspool. Occlusion planes placed wherever possible to alleviate. Re-navmeshed accordingly.

Requirements

Insignia of the Brotherhood
 by Spifferino

Power Armor Station Crafting by mojavesuave

Only meshes and textures required from both mods.

Compatibility

A Patch for Rebuild the Capital is provided in the optional files. This file makes it such that most exterior (for now) changes in this mod are only applied after completing Broken Steel's "Who Dares Wins", using RTC mechanics. Load after both mods.

I'm not aware of any other Citadel Overhauls for TTW.

Notes
  • Designed for mid-range pcs, may be heavy on lower-end machines, particularly in the Lab. A and B rings I daresay it will increase performance. A Lot of nonsense was disabled, plus occlusion planes. I may make a LITE version if necessary.
  • Please give feedback on whether the place is too dark. Looks fine for me. I use NUT ENB II. I won't be making changes to interiour light colour, I like it this way.
  • Changes were made to BOS robot AI packages, I don't remember if theyd are used in Broken Steel's final sequence. If so, may break something. But I don't think they are. It's fine.

Changelog

v1.2 - Major update. Probably requires a new game for all the changes to properly take place, won't break anything if used in an existing save but may be immersion breaking. At the least may require a save in which the Purifier has not been activated. Full list of changes:

  • Changes are now added "dynamically" using the vanilla broken steel script. In other words, at game start there will already be some changes from version 1, but after the main quest is completed, more fortifications and other changes will be applied around the citadel. Refer to screenshots.
  • Overdaul of the latter portion of Taft tunnel.
  • Major expansion of the Citadel perimeter fortifications after the purifier is activated, with howitzers, etc. More BOS npcs too.
  • Citadel gate guards no longer vanish after the purifier is activated.
  • Paladin Bael no longer vanishes after purifier is activated. He now patrols the citadel exteriour.
  • Added a BOS Sentrybot and Gutsy to Falls Church metro entrance, they follow the Paladin there.
  • Added a BOS guard dog in GNR building.
  • Some Enclave Clutter and Technology will appear around the citadel after the purifier is activated.
  • Updated the Rebuild the Capital patch to the new version.
  • Fixed immortal BOS guards
  • Added the .esm flag.

v1.1 - Minor fixes and additions.
