Features:

Lore Friendly: Hymn of The New West is a complete music rescore that brings the musical atmosphere of classic Fallout into New Vegas and all of its DLCs, seamlessly and tastefully.

A Darker New West: Hymn makes full use of all classic Fallout soundtracks, including Nevada and Sonora, two faithful Fallout 2 total conversion mods. The music of the two games, composed by the talented Nobody's Nail Machine, is of very high quality and perfectly encapsulates the essence of a bleak and barren wasteland. All of this shifts the tone of New Vegas closer back to that of classic Fallouts. More post-apocalyptic and less post-post-apocalyptic.

Show, Don't Tell: Hymn relies on the use of more subtle, ambient tracks, to let the mood and tension build up organically. It replaces all music in New Vegas that doesn't fit in Fallout, which include:
  • Generic & Uninspiring - Tracks that sound like they can easily fit in any non-Fallout game. This includes all of the military tracks from both NV and FO3.
  • Shallow & Pretentious - Any "epic", grandiose music that tries to artificially create a sense of high stakes and excitement. All combat music, phony drum rolls, etc. The death sound effect is disabled and the level up sound effect is replaced by the more low key one from FO1/2.
  • Eardrum Breakers - The random, sudden loud string instrument playing and high pitch noise blasting your ears.
  • Bad Music - Just straight up bad music... like Hoover Dam.

Quality Over Quantity: Rather than diluting the experience by adding even more bloat to existing music sets just for the sake of it, Hymn does the opposite. It replaces the randomness and repetitiveness with actual variety and purpose. Every change is deliberate and intentional. Every track is hand picked and hand placed. Every single area is play tested. It is consistently high quality throughout the entire game.

Storytelling Through Music: The music placement takes into account just about every factor imaginable, from the overall sound, to the characters and dialogue, to the geography and even the history of the location, etc, to ensure that the right story is told every time. Moreover, there are scripted event-based music changes at certain key story moments, similar to the intro scene in Zion (modified in Hymn), to further enhance the immersive gameplay.

Logic And Consistency: Odd, disjointed music choices are corrected (ie. the disconnect between Red Rock Canyon and the Drug Lab). Many interior areas now retain their exterior music, when appropriate, for a more interconnected feel. Existing music markers are adjusted to have better coverage. A number of new ones are added as well to add more variety and character to certain areas that previously had no music.

If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix: Areas that were already unique and memorable like Doc Mitchell's, Goodsprings, Novac, Jacobstown, etc, are left untouched.

List of Changes:
This list only include major locations that use classic Fallout tracks.

Requirements:
All DLCs
xNVSE
JIP LN NVSE Plugin
JohnnyGuitar NVSE

Installation:
Load order doesn't matter too much but it should land somewhere later in the order. Make sure to load it after mods that mess with media sets and before weather/lighting mods.

Hymn is safe to install mid game. (Although, I HIGHLY recommend starting a new game for the full experience. There are just a lot subtleties in the music progression. This is especially the case in the more linear areas like the Dead Money and Lonesome Road DLCs. The music in these DLCs is set up like one continuous story from beginning to finish, with every subsequent track building off of the previous one.)

All required Fallout 1 and 2 tracks are included. The mod does not have dependency on the "Fallout1and2" folder.

Compatibility:
Hymn is compatible with just about anything out of the box. Modded areas, depending on what music sets they use, might require a patch to make use of the custom music sets, but there shouldn't be any hard incompatibility problems. At worst, the music won't sound like it fits well in the area.

Hymn supports New Vegas only. It probably "works" on TTW but I fail to see the point of using it, because the mod vehemently goes against the music design in FO3. It outright removes most FO3 tracks used in New Vegas, which leaves even fewer FO3 tracks to work with. Lastly, I have zero intentions of ever making a TTW version because I'm simply not inspired by any of the stories told in FO3.

The mod doesn't make any changes to the radios.

Notes:
Combat music is disabled completely.

Uninstallation:
A few changes are persistent in save games, which can cause a couple of areas to lose their original music under certain conditions when the mod is uninstalled. I've included an uninstaller.esp file that I had used during testing, which you can use to restore the original music nodes, so the mod is fully safe to uninstall.

To uninstall the mod, disable the mod and load the "Hymn of The New West - Uninstaller.esp", located in the uninstaller folder. Load your save and save the game again. Once this is done, the original music nodes are restored and the uninstaller.esp can be disabled.
