After seeing mods like Redemption UI Sounds and especially Undead Nightmare Combat Music I realized how badly I wanted a music replacer that swaps out New Vegas' combat/battle music with that of Red Dead Redemption's. Though, with no such mod surfacing in all this time, I've decided to take it upon myself and be the change I wanted to see. While not particularly varied, this mod does offer a selection of combat music lifted from both of the Red Dead Redemption games. I thought about including some Red Dead Revolver songs as well, but, after listening to them I quickly realized they were just too different from the Redemption games. Maybe I'll revisit that in the future. Anyway.

These aren't the songs in full, as the combat loop in Fallout just generally doesn't last that long. Instead, what songs I have picked are chopped up and split into various segments. For the most part, I'm pretty sure this only affects the Mojave Wasteland side of New Vegas, as I didn't really see or hear any of the tracks from any of the DLCs in the Data/Music/BTTL folder - that I could recognize, anyway. So if this mod doesn't carry over into the DLCs, my bad. If someone with more knowledge about how this works wants to come along and help or offer some insight, I'll gladly see about replacing DLC music as well if I can. This issue has since been fixed.

Moreover, I'm not terribly knowledgeable about how NV assigns its combat music - as in, while I see that are about 4 folders each labeled "Evil" and "Good," and that tracks are distinguished by "City" and "Rural," I don't have even the slightest inkling how the music engine decides what plays where, so I kind of just took a shotgun approach when replacing the music. Ergo, some songs may have stronger presence than others; I suspect one such song is likely going to be Triggernometry.

This mod does also have a TTW version, which you can download separately. You don't need both, as the NV replacers come packaged in both. The track list is as follows:

• Triggernometry¹
• The Shootist¹
• Deformed Hillbilly Fight
• Firefight With O'Driscolls
• Sadie Adler the Widow
• An Honest Day's Labor¹
• You're My Brother¹
• The Sheep And the Goats
• Urban Pleasures²
• The Fine Joys of Tobacco²
• El Club de los Cuerpos¹
• My Last Son³
• Train Heist Shootout³
• Jim Milton Rides Again³
• Paying a Social Call³

¹ Song is exclusive to the Mojave Wasteland.
² Song is exclusive to the Capital Wasteland.
³ Song is exclusive to the Cajon Pass.

I've made some songs exclusive to a particular wasteland simply because I felt it fit one but not the other - and 3 feels like something of a prequel to New Vegas when you're playing TTW, like Red Dead 2 is to 1. At least to me, anyway.

It's an admittedly small selection, but if someone comes around and can instruct me on how to replace the DLC combat music specifically, I'll gladly add more music that's exclusive to the DLCs of NV and TTW.

Also, I didn't play around too much the audio levels aside from some initial amplifying while I was chopping up the songs, and I only really did some basic testing to make sure the mod worked at all. If the songs are too quiet (or too loud) even with the Music volume turned all the way up in game, let me know and I'll try to tweak it some.

I'm not really interested in doing ambient tracks, it's not really my thing. I've always had a better ear for energetic combat tracks when it comes to video game music. If you're looking for ambient music replacement, I do believe that CreepyWarlord offers a separate download for that in their Undead Nightmare Combat Music mod. And I'd hate to feel like I'm stepping on their toes when they did all that work already.

UPDATE 05/21/2024
I've created another version of this mod specifically for use with New California. I'm not too sure what's intended to be what in the audio files for FNC since the naming convention for them is woefully unorthodox, so this one is entirely guess work. See the above tracklist for what's new. "Jim Milton Rides Again" specifically replaces the theme you hear when you duel Elsdragon, since I felt that's where it best fit given the greater context.

All music used is property of Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive. By creating and releasing this mod I by no means claim credit for said music. Artwork featured in the header for this mod page is by the talented brandonthegarcia.
