New Vegas Suburban Overhaul

Overview

Whether it be due to rushed deadlines, console memory limitations, or unfamiliarity with the engine, the Mojave's urban areas often feel lifeless and barren—with flat, concrete boxes and alleyways devoid of anything approaching clutter.

Taking inspiration from Fallout 3 and Fallout 4's level design, I've gone through most of New Vegas' most offending areas and added vents, power boxes, graffiti, air conditioners, and so much more. To maximize compatibility, I've only touched areas in the main worldspace and Boulder City—this mod makes no edits to the inside of Freeside, Westside, or the Strip. I intend to address the former two in a separate mod at some point in the future.

The most heavily edited region is the urban center surrounding Westside, but this mod also edits (to lesser or greater extents) Primm, Boulder City, and the area surrounding the Gun Runners.

Installation+Q&A

The standard fare. For non-Vortex users:

  • Extract contents to the Data Folder, overwriting any files; then
  • Activate urbanoverhaul.esp through the New Vegas Launcher or any other mod manager.

Q: Does this mod impact performance?
A: While the increased number of objects has the potential to degrade performance, the impact should be minimal if you're using modern NV modding essentials like NVTF.

Q: Does this mod add/edit navmeshes?
A: All extra assets were placed in locations that should not require navmesh editing, such as near walls or in unused alleyways, so I chose not to edit navmeshes to maximize compatibility.

Compatability

This mod was made with compatibility in mind for every popular landscape mod, such as NVLO (and the included extras file), Enhanced Vegas Ruins, and Enhanced Mojave Landscapes, among others. This mod should be mostly compatible with A World of Pain and More Mojave, although if there are any issues it would only manifest as minor instances of clipping.
