                    Tales from the Burning Sands

If you are the type of player that enjoys wiling away the hours by enveloping yourself in a story conveyed by simple pictures, then you are likely familiar with the above Fallout mods and their author, Puce Moose.  Alas, Tales from the Burning Sands was to be Puce's final quest mod.

What is this mod then? And why have I audaciously chosen to call it an Edition?  Well, a 'fixpack' would be underselling it in my opinion.  The following is some of what is covered :

  • PlaceAtMe has been done away with.  The manner in which Puce introduced critter variants into the world was somewhat pervasive, using the aforementioned function on every vanilla variant.  Despite only running once, this would inherently cause save bloat.  No longer.  An entirely new suite of creature lists have been created to hand-place mobs all over the world.  Original scripts are still in the game, but the placeatme functionality is disabled by default.

  • Gourmand's pickable fauna scripts have been updated to correctly apply respawn (in accordance with YUP).  Pesky nymph critters spawned from [some] fauna are adequately handled with MarkforDelete after a respawn cycle.

  • Usage of JIP to move companions behind the player during certain enclosed space and trap situations.  While having companions is still not ideal for Tales, this helps a bit in a few spots.

  • Reduction of Loot in Tiger Campus.  A balancing measure aimed at toning down the over one hundred metal boxes & briefcases strewn about the Campus cells, all sharing the same loot pile selection.

  • Music/Acoustics implemented for Tiger Campus.  The lack of these entries in combination with Puce never implementing recordings for aazMUSTigerCampus made this place jarringly silent.

  • Some void holes patched up in the Tiger Campus architecture.

  • Tiger Campus freight elevator can now be used repeatedly.  Scripting would previously stall out if player journeyed back.

  • Doors labeled "Inaccessible", with obvious visual reference as to why, have been replaced with static counterparts.

  • Facegen created so as to allow bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=0.  In accordance with this, removed the "can be any race" flag from the Chef and Jacy.

  • The Striped Mantis Guardian (renamed as simply 'Mantis Guardian') can now properly have its "bond broken".  Sneak and activate.

  • NCR Canteen functionality expanded to water valves (in addition to standard sinks & fountains).

  • Fixed crashing bug with Chompy Chomps. Nomnom.

  • Fabrite billboard texture updated to read "west of Searchlight"

  • Typo corrections and overall consistency in naming.

  • TODO: (Possibly one day...) Re-navmeshing, especially Sunrise Hospital Lobby & the Tiger Campus.

There are a few more bits & bobs, but I don't wish to bore/confuse you with the minutiae. Of special note, this 'Edition' requires the 1.31c update for Tales; don't forget to grab it on the Tales page.  It also requires JIP LN NVSE. Lastly, I have uploaded a patch for users of my Loot Rarity mod.

On a final note, thank you, Puce.  Your style of immersive storytelling is precisely what I and many others love in gaming.
