Based on the stories of Arthur Conan Doyle, "Consulting Detective" lets you follow in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes. Or Dr. Watson, if you prefer. Or perhaps an elegant but non-canonical female version?
Raiders and slavers roam the Mojave like wild beasts. Even more dangerous criminals lurk in the alleys and casinos of New Vegas. The game's afoot! A consulting detective is needed to take on the really difficult hunts -- that can be you. Your first objective is Baker Street in New Vegas, where there's a flat you could lease. There you will find a player home, more equipment, and new crafting possibilities. ARMOR AND EQUIPMENT You can begin the game with a travel outfit, comparable to leather armor. Craft it at the workbench with either leather armor or your Vault 21 suit. (If you use the vaultsuit, you must unequip it before the recipe will appear: when armor has skill bonuses, using it as an ingredient while it's equipped can permanently derail your Skills statistics.) You can also craft a walking stick as a melee weapon, convert a .357 revolver into a British military revolver, and make a magnifying glass to increase your perception. A travel hat is available to supplement the travel outfit; craft it from a prewar hat, which must first be unequipped. You will find more equipment, and a collection of disguises, in the Baker Street flat. NEW WORKBENCHES The Baker Street flat includes special Workbenchs, with new recipes. On the ground floor in Mrs. Hudson's workroom at the end of the hall you will find a fireplace for cooking, and a sewing machine you can use to craft useful outfits in both regular and sturdy versions using fabric. The flat (which is to your left as you enter the building, and upstairs) contains a specialized chemistry workbench with many useful recipes, a tabletop military weapons kit for training and for constructing and maintaining service revolvers and ammunition, and a toolbox for general workbench use and constructing special melee weapons.
