The Wakizashi is a Japanese Shortsword that was used as far back as the 1330's. It first appeared in Fallout 2 as the signature weapon of the New Reno Yakuza. Samurai would often use the Wakizashi as a "companion" sword along with a Katana or a similar long word, which is almost exactly like how the Wakizashi should be used in the game. You see, if the Wakizashi is treated as any ordinary melee weapon it's just an early-game sword that can easily help you defend yourself against low-level highwaymen and perhaps even a raider if you're lucky. Where the Wakizashi excels is its use as a precautionary holdout weapon as it's designed to be used in stealth, similar to the silenced .22 pistol. It can be bought from either the Vendertron at the Gun Runners Headquaters, or bought from Alexander at the 188. It does not come with any additional weapon modifications.
