Description
The Winchester Widowmaker is a fictional double-barrel shotgun featured in Fallout and Fallout 2. In reality, the Winchester "Widowmaker" shotgun is the Winchester Model 1911, a long-recoil semi-auto shotgun given the moniker due to the dangerous method of charging the bolt which involves placing the stock on the ground and physically pushing the barrel and bolt backward, potentially putting the operator in front of the muzzle. The gun featured in classic Fallout and this mod is a standard cut-down double barrel shotgun bearing no resemblance to the real Widowmaker. There's not much interesting mechanically with most double barrel shotgun designs, except the strange quirks that come with the twin-barrel design. On most double-barrel shotguns, the barrels are slightly angled together such that the shot patterns converge at a predetermined range, usually around 30-40 yards, which necessitates that shooters compensate to the left or right at longer ranges with either barrel. Also, the left barrel is usually made with a tighter choke than the right barrel, which gives it a longer effective range but with lower hit probability. Some designs use a single trigger which alternates between firing the two barrels, and some designs use two triggers which independently fire a barrel. Two-trigger designs are unique in that both triggers can be pulled at once, doubling the power of the shot at the cost of intense recoil and possible damage to the gun if it's in poor condition. The shotgun in this mod has a unique feature in that you can fire each barrel independently when you're standing up, but if you crouch you will fire both barrels at once, which is functionally the same as just shooting twice very quickly. (Note: the script checks to make sure you have both shells loaded in order to fire both barrels, but loading a save where you only have one shell loaded will throw it off. If the count gets thrown off, manually reloading with one shell in the gun will fix it.)

Stats
The gun is balanced to do slightly less damage than the vanilla hunting shotgun, but a little more damage when modded with the long barrels. The low ammo capacity of only two shells means it must be reloaded more often, but the reload is much faster than the hunting shotgun's, meaning the DPS values are fairly similar in practice. However, the gun's ability to fire both barrels at once for a massive barrage of damage at once dramatically increases its DPS, especially for players with high agility and the rapid reload perk since this will effectively serve to increase how fast the gun is fired shot-to-shot.
Base damage: 66 (72 with long barrels)
Base DPS: 81 (110 when crouching)
Base critical damage: 10 per pellet
Magazine capacity: 2
Base spread: 1.2 (0.9 with full stock)
Base weight: 6 lbs
Base value: 750 caps
Repair type: sawed-off shotgun
LocationThe gun and its mods are sold by the Gun Runners and Chet, and can be occasionally found on NPCs who normally carry sawed off shotguns. There is also one on the gravesite behind the Follower's safehouse.
