A better question than "why is vendortron outside its kiosk" might be "why does vendortron still exist in DUST at all", or "how does vendortron continue to dispense an infinitely restocking supply of goods when the Gun Runners no longer exist in the Mojave"
My headcanon is that vendortron is the gunrunners itself, the others are just for show. Wouldn't want the brotherhood finding out that there's a robot out there manufacturing guns out of thin air
Doesn't matter if this mod breaks DUST lore a bit, we can just pretend that the cannibals who took over GR HQ kept Vendortron there because they couldn't find a way to break into his kiosk and figured they might as well barter with him for weapons and ammo. In a way it kinda makes sense; the cannibals get access to great weapons and Vendortron keeps raking in business
TIn the base game, the Gun Runners have strange meat pies in their base. It is not lore-breaking for them to be the source of one of the canibal factions. Keeping the vendatron going might be a way for them to get raw materials and keep themselves going.
Pretty much my reaction when I first found out. To be entirely honest with you, I REALLY wonder why no one had put out a fix before I did, knowing the mod has been released since 2015. I might increase its cap count back to 8k, or even 10k, since it appears its vendor caps were decreased drastically.
I mean, I knew it was intended in some way, as in it's not a "bug", but I can't for the life of me see how vendortron could've ran away from his kiosk without a trace or lore, and have survived, AND have access to his inventory. It just really seemed off to me when I saw that.
Also, thank you again for your water fix, can't be said enough.
First of all, just to make clear: NOT dissing your mod. Good to see DUST is getting more attention But after the Fall, Gun Runners were driven out of their HQ. Vendortron thus abandoned as well its workplace. Cannibals took over the place then. From gameplay and balance perspective, it is placed near tunnelers (and can be killed by them), since it is a source for ammo, and C4 (needed for one of the escapes).
In fact, I suspect Vendortron and the survivors that are Contreiras, Lupe, and Alexander were designed to be killed when PC found them, since their dialog lines are untouched and their positions are full of respawning hostiles.
Saving them the first time is entirely a matter of luck and metagaming to the last dredge. It should be impossible to save them on 2nd visits. ------ Out-of-box to keep them safe 1. Draw all the possible tunnelers to a place far from them and kill the buggers there. When they respawn they should be farther so Vendortron and Lupe can be a little safer. Vendortron is actually quite safe since he's on a cliff and hidden from view. 2. Alexander is a dead corpse walking because the damn ghouls are numerous and he is armed with a stinking Gauss Rifle, contrary to his skillsets. If he's armed with a Guns-type weapon he's more viable. But he's quite easier to save with Classic Adobe 188 Trading post mod, where he's stuffed inside a building and out of sight of the ghouls. 3. Contreirras is nogo. The hostiles are in his shack, so no way to save him there.
