Changelogs

Molerat is your super sidekick in the wasteland. Sometime before that fateful night in Goodsprings, the Courier encountered an orphaned kid on the road and took him under their wing. He'll be waiting for you outside of Doc Mitchell's house when you start a new game.

Molerat currently features over 250 lines of professionally voiced dialogue, plus:

  • He can cook for you and set up camp after 8PM
  • You can teach him new skills with your SPECIAL attributes
  • He'll make occasional idle chatter, comment on wasteland locations and sing road songs
  • He has a background story to share with you as you travel with him on the road to Vegas
  • He'll gain 1 of 4 possible perks depending on how you answered his questions along the way

Install normally with your preferred mod manager. Requires the 4 main DLC.

For users of JIP CCC: Valthorix made an avatar for him which you can download here:

No known incompatibilities. If you have a compatibility issue or bug to report, please do it in the ''forums" tab of this page.

In theory, a mod that changes the area in front of Doc Mitchell’s house could cause problems when encountering Molerat for the first time, but I haven't found one that does. For reference, PaladinHoss' Buenos Fuentes works fine with Molerat.

New faction armors added by mods won't be identified by his perks, but mesh and texture replacers will work fine. This is not technically an incompatibility, just a disclaimer.

Note that Molerat has unique face textures, so if you use NPC overhaul mods that include texture replacers (New Vegas Redesigned etc.) then he will have a visible neckseam. If that bothers you, then copy your face textures from your default male directory to textures/characters/winston

Regarding JIP CCC and other 'recruit anyone'-type mods: When you recruit Molerat for the first time, just make sure you do it the normal way (through his dialogue menu) and not through another mod's feature. Otherwise, the quest won't start.
