Fame

There are very few ways in New Vegas to gain fame with the Brotherhood of Steel. You get 1 point for recovering Torres' missing laser pistol and either 5 or 12 points for completing the quest Still In The Dark, depending on whether you back Hardin or McNamara. Unless you successfully stop the launch of nuclear missiles in Lonesome Road, it's actually impossible to become Idolized with them.

The player will now receive the same amount of fame whether they back McNamara or Hardin as Elder instead of receiving far more from backing McNamara and making an already one-sided choice even more clear cut.

In addition, there is now a voiced small unmarked quest to bring the holotags from fallen Brotherhood back to Elder McNamara. As there is a similar quest for the NCR and even the Legion, this felt like a missed opportunity. Though this will definitely be more impactful with the presence of mods which increase the amount of Brotherhood traveling the Mojave outside the Bunker such as The Living Desert. Once per day, the player can gain a single point of fame and be rewarded by the Elder with some caps for turning in Brotherhood Holotags from their fallen comrades.

Also, if the player has officially joined the Brotherhood, they can gain a small amount of fame for turning in prohibited tech like energy weapons and ammo, power armor, power fists and the like to Brotherhood vendors like Knight Torres. Conversely, you will incur small amounts of infamy for selling this prohibited tech to any non-Brotherhood vendors (except for Hologram Vendors, The Sink and the Commissary system in the Divide). It's like item weight in that a few times won't be significant but lots of it will eventually add up.

If, after joining the Brotherhood, you wish to stop receiving infamy for trading prohibited tech with outsiders, a new dialogue option is unlocked to tell the current Elder that you've changed your mind and wish to leave the Brotherhood. This will remove the reputation penalty for sharing prohibited tech with outsiders but permanently revoke your membership and access to purchase advanced items from the Armory.

The player will now gain fame with the Brotherhood for the following achievements:
Spoiler:
Show

-Killing Ranger Dobson after making sure that he's operating alone.

Given their reputation, besting a Ranger in combat is always impressive. Furthermore, choosing to kill Dobson instead of taking the safe way out by diverting him shows a willingness to take extreme measures and proves a lack of attachments to the NCR.

-Helping Scribe Ibsen isolate and purge the computer virus from the datastore.

Aside from Pistol Packing, this is really the only other side quest available within the Bunker and should be worth a tiny amount of fame.

-Agreeing to let the Brotherhood recover the data from ED-E.

Gaining a small amount of favor with the Brotherhood seems reasonable for choosing to give them access to the valuable data logs stored within ED-E.

-Activating the Archimedes I plant defense system to clear out the NCR forces occupying HELIOS One.

Single-handedly driving the NCR out of HELIOS One by activating the plant's orbital laser defense system would certainly be of interest to the Brotherhood in lockdown, reinforcing the fact that the NCR's ability to hold its territory is tenuous and bolstering those who support an offensive to retake their old base.

-Bringing Lorenzo all of the components needed to repair the Bunker's ventilation system

Even though Lorenzo and McNamara are trying to keep it quiet, recovering these critical components from three of the most dangerous places in the Mojave and single-handedly saving the Bunker from slow death or forced exile should certainly earn the player some respect, no matter which Elder you proceed to endorse.

-Completing the Elder's quest to prove your place in the Brotherhood.

Whether it's storming Black Mountain through Tabitha's crazed Super Mutants or single-handedly putting an end to the powerful Van Graff crime family in New Vegas, any paladin worth their power armor would have to respect such an impressive start to your career.

-Bringing an operational Rangefinder to the Elder with Veronica after bringing Archimedes II online.

While all three of the technologies one can bring to the Elder with Veronica are impressive, the man's voice leaves no doubt which of them interests him the most--namely completing Elijah's unfinished work and unlocking the secret power of HELIOS One.

-Convincing Mr. House to spare the Brotherhood when he instructs you to exterminate them and destroy their bunker.

This only applies if you are playing with a mod which enables this cut content. Personally, I don't think it makes much sense to work with Mr. House if you are a member of the Brotherhood, unless you are role-playing as a double-agent setting up a double cross later.

Ending

Possibly due to an oversight or a bug, there isn't actually a Brotherhood ending slide for the Independent ending if McNamara remains Elder and the player lifts the lockdown by completing Still in the Dark but doesn't broker a truce with the NCR. To correct that oversight, I've fixed the dialogue conditions so that the ending where the BoS retake HELIOS One will play as long as they haven't agreed to a truce with the NCR.

My reasoning for this is that Elder McNamara tells the player after the lockdown has been lifted that Hardin is already planning an offensive to retake HELIOS. He says he hopes to dissuade them but I think the existing end slides show that this won't be successful.

Additionally, you now have the option to ask Hardin to send a squad of his Paladins to assist you at Hoover Dam in the Independent battle if you're a member of the Brotherhood and have earned enough fame to be Idolized. Previously, you would only receive Brotherhood assistance at the Dam if you brokered a truce between them and the NCR.

NPCs

To ensure maximum compatibility with other mods that might edit NPCs, most of the following changes to NPC records are scripted in a tiny startup quest that terminates itself after it's done.

The player can now ask Senior Knight Lorenzo to repair their equipment. Accordingly, his Repair skill has been raised to 100.

He's the Senior Knight (the order dedicated to maintaining the chapter's weapons, armor and machinery) and chief repairman in the Bunker, secretly tasked by the Elder with fixing a critical problem with the ventilation system before it renders the entire bunker uninhabitable. Having such a low Repair skill makes no sense for his character in the first place.

Additional tweaks to NPCs include:

Spoiler:
Show

Veronica's 10mm Pistol has been changed into a more appropriate Laser Pistol, better serving her skill with Energy Weapons. It uses the exact
same baseform as her vanilla pistol, but with the model, stats and technical data of a Laser Pistol.

Apprentice Watkins will now carry a more appropriate Laser Pistol instead of a 10mm Pistol.

Paladin Sato's sidearm is now a more appropriate Laser Pistol instead of a 10mm Pistol.

Fantastic now carries a copy of the Western Terminal Reflector Password on his person, mirroring how Ignacio carries the Eastern one on his person. In the vanilla game, there is no way to obtain the Western password without talking to Fantastic and agreeing to help him. This way, the player can pickpocket the password off of him or kill him and take it from his corpse, enabling the player to complete Lucky Old Sun even if they immediately attack the NCR at the entrance to the plant.

Equipment

Tweaks to various leveled lists in order to make the Brotherhood's equipment a little more varied, interesting and true to the classic games.
Spoiler:
Show
Diversified the weapons in the leveled list for Scribes to include Power Fists, Rippers, Plasma Defenders and Recharger Pistols, instead of just Laser Pistols, Laser RCWs and Zap Gloves.

Diversified the weapons in the leveled lists for Paladins to include some Miniguns, Gatling Lasers, Plasma Casters, Heavy Incinerators, Super Sledges, Tesla Cannons, Missile Launchers and Grenade Machineguns instead of just Tri-Beam Laser Rifles and Gauss Rifles, all of which the Brotherhood should have some access to based on what we see in the game.

The more powerful and rare weapons are less likely to spawn in their equipment, however, to keep things more balanced and reinforce the theme of the Mojave Brotherhood being a struggling chapter in decline.

These tweaks should make a direct assault on Hidden Valley more interesting and difficult. Likewise if you convince the Brotherhood to send troops to help you defend Hoover Dam from the Legion.

Extras

There are now recipes to convert T-45d and T-51b Power Armor into their Brotherhood versions as long as you have a paint gun on hand and have a high enough reputation. Now you can proudly wear the armor of your faction without having to take it off a corpse or assassinate a fellow member for it.

If Tend To Your Business is completed without allowing the Silver Rush to be destroyed, the Brotherhood will seize the Van Graff stock and make it available for sale to the player from Knight Torres. This provides a little more incentive to back Hardin as elder over McNamara and ensures the player doesn't lose access to the unique GRA items sold there.

The Hidden Valley self-destruct sequence has been expanded to show a more elaborate response from the Brotherhood who follow their training to take defensive positions and lock down the bunker to prevent intruders from getting in or out. All the while there is an actual timer counting down to when the Bunker explodes which will kill the player if they do not make it outside in time. Additionally, if the player is accompanied by Veronica and activates the self-destruct sequence in view of her, she will confront the player in dialogue with multiple different choices and outcomes that account for certain player attributes, perks, faction reputation levels as well as which main quest line has been committed to by that point.

Just for fun, I added a recipe to craft a holotag fist out of recovered Brotherhood holotags using this retexture with permission by cbgreely. You can craft a weapon using NCR dogtags so why not? The recipe is identical to the one for the Dogtag Fist except using Brotherhood Holotags instead. I've injected this new weapon into the appropriate form lists using a script to avoid any conflicts, so it's compatible with everything.

If you're feeling lazy, you can always add the weapon to your inventory using the console by following this method (substituting ## with the mod
index of the plugin from your load order):
player.AddItem ##0031D5 1
Spoiler:
Show
Substitute ## in the FormID with the "Mod Index" of the mod in your load order.
The Mod Index is a two-character hexadecimal code, with a value between
00 and FF, that can be found using a mod manager. It should be listed
somewhere beside the name of the plugin. After finding the Mod Index,
open the console in game using the tilde (~) key, and type Player.AddItem <FormID> 1

The mod's scripts require the xNVSE, JIP LN NVSE and ShowOff xNVSE script extenders in order to function correctly.

This mod is now included in the Viva New Vegas modding guide.

The following mods can further enhance the player's experience of the Brotherhood in the game and are recommended:

The Living Desert - Travelers Patrol Consequences Increased Population And More by ELPascal
Hidden Valley Overhauled by LudonarrativeDissonance
Brave New World by Dracomies
Power Armor Visual Enhancement by Strider5
Titans of the New West 2.0 by Woooombat

Special note to users of Brave New World: the new dialogue for Elder McNamara and Lorenzo will still sound like their original voice actors rather than the mod's revoice. While it isn't hard to make those lines using the recorded dialogue from BNW, Dracomies does not grant permission to upload such a version. Then again, that mod still uses the vanilla barks for their revoiced characters so a little additional inconsistency shouldn't completely ruin it.

The mod is automatically compatible with the following:
