Ending Slideshows Ultimate Edition Overhaul

The four primary DLCs each have their own slideshows, and these normally play upon completion of a given DLC's main quest.  This made sense in 2011 when the DLC was being doled out one by one and it was by no means guaranteed that a given player would own all of them.  But Fallout New Vegas's primary incarnation these days is the "Ultimate Edition", which is meant to be a complete package of everything the game has to offer.

This mod was developed with one focus: To provide a slideshow result that would make the most sense if Fallout New Vegas plus its DLC had always been one complete package, with all of the "DLC" simply being major side quests—parts of the whole.

Within this context, it does not make sense to allow side quests to present their own conclusions and steal thunder from the game proper
.  There are also more compelling reasons: Most of the DLCs allow the player to return and attend to tasks they may have been putting off for one reason or another.  Yet in the unmodded state, anything those DLC slideshows might have to say about the Courier's deeds will already have been said.  In effect, the game is forced to make assumptions about what the player may or may not ultimately do.  This can lead to some obvious incongruities.

Seeing the entirety of the game's slideshow presentation in one large sitting makes for an almost epiphanic experience.  A good way to cap off a long playthrough.

By no means do I recommend spoiling the total experience, but should you have reason, here is a demonstration of the complete endgame slideshow, albeit with a neutral character who accomplished almost nothing during their playthrough:

Features:

  • Forces the DLC slideshows to play as part of end-game slideshow, rather than at the individual conclusions of the DLCs' main quests.  V0.92: This can now be disabled, and the slideshows at the ends of the DLCs can be re-enabled.
  • Forces the non-DLC slides to widescreen.  These are normally displayed in 4:3.  The artwork used for the vanilla slides is, in fact, 16:9, so when it gets displayed at the vanilla 4:3, it appears squished.  This is fixed.  (Optional.)
  • Forces the projector to have a flickering lamp.  The vanilla slideshow is presented with a flat, static lamp.  They added the flickering effect later, to all of the DLC, but left the vanilla ending alone.  This is fixed.  (Optional.)
  • Forces the projector to fade out/in during each slide change.  The vanilla slideshow does not have this fading effect; it was introduced with the DLC.  This is fixed.  (Optional.)
  • Forces the slides to change during the dark frames of the fade-out, as opposed to right before the fade-out begins.  Just a nitpick that bothered me greatly.
  • Fixes the positioning of the vanilla screen, which is normally too close and off-center.  This assumes one decides to keep the 4:3 presentation for the vanilla slides.  (Optional.)
  • Forces subtitles to appear during ED-E's and Roxie's slides.  Even though the game is supposed to do this on its own, I personally have never seen it work.  So now it will, full stop.  (Optional.)
  • Makes ED-E's slides last longer, so you get a good fighting chance to actually read them before the text vanishes.  (Optional.)
  • Forces player scale to 1 and FOV to 75 so the slides don't appear off-kilter.  (Optional.)
  • Adds a small pause during the slideshow between each of the individual DLC sections, to emphasize the transition and give the DLCs' stories room to breathe.  (Optional and adjustable.)
  • An option to disable the "convenient" teleportation from the vault to the fountain at the end of Dead Money.  (For immersion purists.)
  • An option to disable the "convenient" teleportation clear across the entire Divide and back to the Mojave at the end of Lonesome Road, enabling one to traverse the True Lonesome Road.  (Also for immersion purists.)

Compatibility:
  • No issues with installing mid-game.
  • No compatibility issues expected with Functional Post Game Ending.

Notes:

  • As indicated earlier, the slideshows will no longer play at the end of their respective DLCs.  That said, if you're mid-game and they've already played once, they will still play again at the end of the game.
  • To the best of my ability to judge, this mod will not cause issues with non-English versions of the game.
  • The True Lonesome Road option ensures that Tunnelers and Marked Men avoid the Courier on their trek back out, per Ulysses' narration.
  • Edits from Yukichigai Unoffocial Patch and Asterra's Many Fixes are carried over.
  • All of the above-noted options can be tweaked in the config file.
