Update - 8/2/2022
For the first time since I started modding this game in 2016, I finally managed to complete the whole game without it just utterly breaking and becoming unplayable. Frankly I'm still a little stunned that I even got this far. However, since my 120 hours of playtime have come to an end, so will the development of Willow Misc Changes be stalled, likely until I decide to come back and tackle TTW. However, be happy to know that apart from some minor things, I've done basically everything I wanted to do for Willow and I'm content with the current state of this mod.

I will still maintain it and correct bugs as they're reported to me, but don't expect anything further than that for a while. Thanks everyone!

Why

Willow is my favorite New Vegas follower mod but I've always noticed a variety of little bugs and things that could be changed. I started working on this for my personal use but decided to contact LlamaRCA for permissions to upload and was happily granted them.

Please keep in mind that apart from fixing some things and general script updates, this mod is geared towards making Willow more compatible with JIP CC&C too.

Also if you know of any bugs in the original Willow, kindly direct me at them and I'll give them a look. My aim with this mod is to get Willow as perfected as I'm able.
Changes
Many of the scripts were updated or completely rewritten with new functions and standards that have come available over the years in order to make her scripts more maintainable and optimized.

Willow's outfit system was rewritten.
  • Willow's outfit dialog was fixed so you can now ask her to remove her current outfit which effectively returns her to her default outfit, aka, no outfit.
  • Reworked the permanent items system for outfits. It works more intuitively now by allowing you to add items that willow will always use with only her functional outfits, not occasional outfits. These items are then immediately returned to her but fetched once again if Willow is holding them when you decide to edit her permanent items selection.

Reworked Willow's weapon and outfit management.
  • Normally Willow would always keep her rifle equipped regardless of what you did. Only removing her rifle from her would resolve that. Willow no longer insists upon using only her weapon.
  • Willow normally unequipped her weapon and backpack during certain actions. Willow now does that with whatever backpack or gun she has equipped, she'll also reequip when appropriate.
  • Willow no longer auto-equips her rifle. This is done to allow JIP CC&Cs inventory controls do their thing. She'll still pick the best weapon appropriate for her combat mode when her hands are empty and a fight breaks out though.
  • Removed some workarounds for the old invisible weapon's glitch and changed AddItem commands to AddItemAlt.

Willow's cooking has been completely reworked.
  • Willow uses the same recipes the player uses to create items. If these are changed, so will whatever Willow cooks.
  • Instead of amassing all ingredients from the cupboards and refrigerator onto herself, Willow will now only take what she needs from the containers.

Willow's ingredient purchasing has been reworked.
  • Instead of Willow buying a set of ingredients based on recipes, she will buy ingredients at random. This is to simulate the idea that vendors don't always have what Willow needs, so she gets what she can.
  • What Willow pays for each ingredient is now exactly what the player would pay at Willow's barter level. This adjusts perfectly fine with any mods that change things. The money is all placed in the proper containers and the proper items are also taken from merchant containers.

DLC Support
Willow now integrates into the following DLCs instead of being an obvious "invader". This also prevents you from taking JT into the following DLC. Some places just aren't meant for a pooch.
  • Dead Money (Not suggested)
  • Honest Hearts (Willow fits right in IMO)
  • Old World Blues (Not entirely suggested)
  • Lonesome Road (Also not really suggested)

Other
  • The shower script was reworked. Willow should now re-dress herself correctly and talking to her while she's in the shower or something shouldn't break something.
  • Willow should properly redress herself after sex now.
  • Willow will now properly use her gas mask when ordered too and she will remember your instruction. Previously, she would forget rather quickly.
  • Willow's rifle can use ammo if you're playing on hardcore mode, off by default, can be toggled.
  • Willow's rifle was made playable, meaning you can take it if you want. It's advised you take her gun via the dialogue if you wish to use it though. Need to ask Willow for it again now. I think Willow's consent for this is kinda important.
  • Willow's weapon damage and damage for all of the mod's weapons are now just +3 of the base weapons and set dynamically to be compatible with any gun mods.
  • Willow's rifle had a range tweak. The idea is to encourage Willow to use the rifle at it's optimal distance, which is from medium to far, which consequently makes her combat AI much more competent.
  • Tweaked Willow's firing rate for her rifle. She had a tendency to rapid fire bang out shots, now she takes a variable amount of short time before laying another bullet down range.
  • Willow's backpack now has a minor object effect that gives her 20 pounds of extra carry weight which makes it not just a cosmetic item.
  • Asking for Willow's gun, and then giving it back and asking for it again will no longer automatically give you a nearly fully fixed gun. The gun's health is tracked so don't give Willow a broken gun because she won't fix it.
  • For your efforts in locating her pencils, Willow would gift you one of two very interesting but game changing perks. Either a version of strong back or pack rat. I thought this was a little too much perk for such a simple challenge and I didn't like how it affected my harder than hardcore setup, so now the perk only gives you a slight carry weight buff (about 5 pounds).
  • Corrected some voice lines missing dialogue. They were usually copies of existing dialogues so it was a matter of copying the files and renaming
  • Reworked how the gecko meat hunt works a little so you can give her all the meat you own and still be able to see every voice line in response to you meeting certain goals. Also gave her a dedicated meat box where she will place the gecko meat to prevent players from just re-using the same gecko meat to boost her quest. She will take the contents of the meat box into account when cooking so don't worry, you will get your gecko steaks (and possibly kebabs).
  • The campfire has been reworked to properly emit sound and light, Willow will also move to the campfire location and create it. Furthermore, it takes her 20 in-game minutes to finish the campfire so you'll see your clock advance 20 minutes along with your needs if applicable.
  • You can now place the campfires and bedrolls exactly where you want them to go. Just follow the dialogue and place it when the mode starts.
  • Willow's original leveling tracker would check how many levels the player has advanced since employing Willow to unlock certain dialogs and content. However, if users installed Willow late, they may never level up enough times to gain all of Willow's content. This was fixed by unlocking all content if the player is max level.
  • Fixed various issues with the added clothing such as multiple items only having Female World Objects which would cause male players dropping the items to effectively cause it to vanish. (Items can have only Male World Objects, it'll function fine, not the other way around though).

New Features
  • Willow will now remove her sunglasses at night or when it's dark, in addition to removing it in interiors. Only works with her default glasses though this may likely change. Toggleable in the ini file.
  • Willow will now remove her hat indoors. Only works with her default hat. Toggleable in the ini file.
  • Willow will be frisked for weapons when entering various casinos. She'll also be stripped in the hidden valley if the player is too. This was completely refactored as of beta 2.
  • Willow will now say something every time you go to sleep. It sort of simulates fallout 4 companion chatter once you've slept with them nearby or as followers.
  • Follow distance can now be adjusted for both follow modes in the ini file.
  • Catchup has been added with two functionalities. Increase Willow's speed on a curve based on her distance from you. If at a threshold, she'll be teleported directly to your back where she'll be out of sight, thus hiding the awkwardness of having her teleport right in front of you while you're walking or generally getting in the way or breaking immersion.
  • Willow may now randomly change to any available outfit after 3 days of wearing the same outfit but only upon waking up. Only the 5 base outfits are used. The 4 in her wardrobe and the default outfit. This does not include the sleep, swim, or sex or permanent outfits. Toggleable in the ini file.
  • Willow should pay more attention to what's going on. If your weapon is out and you're looking in a certain direction, Willow will watch the same direction. If you're looking at a particular item or person, Willow will pay attention to what you're looking at. It may not be to everyone's taste so it can be easily disabled in the config.
  • Willow's mood is now dynamically changed in response to whatever is going on. If your weapon is out, she's gonna look serious. If you or her are hurt, she'll look worried. It may not be to everyone's taste so it's fully toggleable.
  • You can now change how much the bungalow costs, combat aggressiveness, base health points, ammo requirement for hardcore, and the on/off state of the water purifier in the bungalow apart from toggling some of the new features you may not like such as the mood handler and attention handler.
  • You can now "fire" Willow in a way which should appease Llama's original vision, and allow players to leave Willow at home properly when they need to do something else. Just ask Willow to wait for you at home (as in the actual dialogue that says "wait for me at home" don't just go home and tell her to wait) and it'll work as if she were fired. The other "true" firing dialogue still functions as expected because they're supposed to be mean and Willow should react negatively to them. So don't use them unless you want to make Willow upset.
Quest Changes

  • Beauty and the Toys was heavily rewritten to make the objectives clear, simple and easier to follow. The AI and scripts of the related NPCs was redone to run virtually automatically without the control of variables. Beauty and Moira are now added via a script directly to the player when activating the person who is supposed to be holding the items, this makes sure loot reduction mods don't remove them by mistake and render the quest impossible to complete.

Requirements
  • Willow - A Better Companion Experience (duh...)
  • xNVSE
  • JIP LN NVSE
  • JohnnyGuitar
  • ShowOff NVSE
Installation
You install it like any other mod and tweak the INI to your preference. If you're looking to install this mod mid-game, you may be able to do it just fine. I won't fully endorse a mid-game install because you never know how everyone's setup's and the game's engine will react, but I did develop this mod well into a 40 hour save that is currently going on 100 hours.
Regardless you need to install this mod only before or after Beauty and the Toys.
Incompatibilities

  • CFEE
  • Any mod that changes Willow's Behavior. Appearance changes should work fine.
  • Just Mods Assorted 4.4 (or more) - Hold Breath.  It has a minor bug that causes IsTalking to always return true when called on the player. You can disable Hold Breath or Breath Sounds and it'll work fine again until this bug is resolved. Bear in mind this also affects the original Willow mod, not just MiscChanges and basically any other mod.
