Do you know what's the problem with riding Vertibird to the battlefield?
People with Plasma Caster will be itching to pump a magazine into such GIGIANTIC target. You can run away from missiles but Plasma bolts is another matter.
People will flock to Legion's side just to be able to sniping these birds.
Bro. The entire Van Graff questline disprove your argument. The Legion doesn't use energy weapons not because of the "low tech" doctrine (which has never been an absolute when it came to weapons! Look at the sheer number of firearms in Legion hands) but because they don't have a significant supply of them nor the means to maintain them long term. They DID attempt to get energy weapons in large quantity from the Van Graff, who betrayed them however.
So it's less of a problem with the legion not wanting it, and more of a problem with the legion not having access to it.
Awesome. Only problem I've noticed is vertibirds don't seem to have proper sounds, at least in the Mojave Outpost event. They've got landing/takeoff sounds, but no flying sounds.
Do you ever plan on reshading the combat helmet to better match the tone of the paratrooper armor? I guess it's a minor feature but just wondering. Keep up the awesome work with the special forces series btw :)
Bug in Worldspace - MojaveParatrooperPickUpVerti [ACTI:FB002B38] not active vertibird model in the air, near Mojave Outpost ! Even if a new game is started. ( if remove this line, then bugged vertibird disappear )
Really liking the mod idea, only thing I'd suggest is that if you have a low rep with NCR, they could be sent to kill you if you're on northern part of the map, since it's closer to the airport, while Rangers mostly try to get you from south, which is closer to the outpost; would also make having low rep with NCR have more consequence and let player interact with them more. Another thing, letting them use Mk1 and Mk2 armors.
Its probably been said already but you may want to call them NCR Air Assault and not Paratroopers. Air Assault doctrine revolves around inserting and extracting with aircraft but most fighting is dismounted, usually with a couple of recon and gunship birds in the air for armed overwatch, and the slicks (transports) pulled back to an RV or FARP away from the fighting awaiting orders to return to the extraction zone to pick up their troops. I don't think anyone could really pull off putting a full, legit Air Assault simulation in this game's engine (there's always ArmA for that), given that doing something like Someguy2000's cancelled "Siege of Firebase Zulu" got to be too much for the engine and he was mostly just trying to make a somewhat realistic Firebase under siege, but hey, who knows.
Cool mod and series regardless, I've always wanted to see things that we hear of, like the NCR Air Force and NCR Navy, as well as Special Operations folks that weren't Rangers.

I'm also doing Legion Auxiliary Forces soon, to even things out.
Technically, Fallout 3 (and thus Capital Wasteland in TTW mod for FNV) did the air assault with their scripted Vertibird landings. In particular, the landing zone outside of Temple of Union, on the ruined highway bridge, where one script do the landing, another do the picking up. In general, they did landing, vertibird fly to zone, land, appear a team of enclave troopers. If you shoot the bird to explode, nuclear cloud will destroy that team and blow their corpses away.
Out of 20+ scripted vertibird event in broken steel, more than half of them is landing events with team of troopers appear from the birds.
Mind you, doing that in front of me is taking a big risk. From Plasma Caster to Miss Launcher, I roleplay everything in taking down vertibirds~
If you're doing Legion Auxiliary forces, any chance you'll include Super Mutant auxiliaries? Always felt like it'd make sense for the Legion to seek out big FEV hulks for mercenary support.
I'll consider it. I was always interested in deepening Super Mutant lore in FNV and since the Legion models themselves after Rome, who often used Barbarian Auxiliaries, I guess it'd make sense for the Legion to use Super Mutants.
