They are compatible! My mod adds the rifles as new weapons while nickheggo's mod is both a replacer and expansion of This Machine and the Battle Rifle.
Stat wise the rifles are equal to the Battle Rifle/This Machine. And yeah, they should be fine mid playthrough since the leveled list integration is done through scripts to minimize conflicts.
