About this mod

This mod is an attempt at balancing Stimpaks and making builds centered around drugs a bit more involved and interesting by adding new mechanic to the game: Overdosing. Taking too many Drugs or Stimpaks in a short period of time will make your character overdose, debuffing them. MCM Configurable. Also adds a new Perk related to this mechanic.

Ever wondered how your character can shoot an entire drugdealers inventory worth of drugs up their arm without repercussions (other than some minor addiction)? Ever thought that Stimpaks must be magic, since there are now apparent side effects from eating them like candy? Well, this mod answers these questions you surely had by adding an entirely new mechanic to the game - Overdosing!

Drugs are bad kids.

How exactly does this mod work? Well, taking too many drugs or stimpaks over a period of 2 in game hours (4 Minutes real time) will apply a massive debuff to your character called "Jittery". It slows down movement, attack speed, reload speed, and damages your SPECIALs among other things. The Threshold for how many drugs you can take is based on a Base Threshold of 4 (mcm configurable) + 0.5 * your Endurance (rounded up). Example: A Char with 7 Endurance has an Overdose-Threshold of 8, so on the 9th injection of psycho, they will overdose. Don't worry, a warning message will pop up if you are about to overdose. You can also increase this Threshold by an additional 5 by getting the otherwise pretty terrible "Chem Resistant" Perk.

Once you get an overdose, you can only do one of two things: Wait it out or take some Fixer. That's right, Fixer is actually useful now and cures Overdose. Another option to deal with overdose is the new "High on life" Perk (lvl 22, 80 Med). This Perk inverts the Effects of overdose, buffing instead of weakening you. It does come with a downside however: Once the Overdose wears off, you will be paralyzed for about an hour. So you better kill those raiders fast.

The why of it

The idea of this mechanic is to balance Stimpaks by limiting the amount of them you can take. Buffing yourself using drugs also comes with the downside of limiting how many Stimpaks you can heal with and fixer is now an actually useful item. Overall, it makes healing a bit more involved, improving gameplay. But if you don't like that change or only want some added """realism""" for drugs, you can prevent Stimpaks from causing Overdose in the MCM.

Compatibility

This mod should be compatible with pretty much anything, since no vanilla stuff has been altered other than the description of the Endurance Stat and Chem Resistant Perk. Thanks to JIP, I was able to add the new "cure overdose" effect to fixer without actually editing it. New drugs added by mods will not work automatically, they will have to be added to the smDrugs Formlist first (Stimpaks will have to be added to the smStimpak List). Just leave a message and I will probably write a quick patch.




Just like Skillbased Vendor Repair, this is part of a bigger overhaul mod I am working on, but I decided that this works great as a Standalone. I appreciate any balance suggestions or what you guys and gals think the best base Threshold is.
