Lore

The Solar Scorcher was first introduced in Fallout 2. It was a laser pistol equipped with photoelectric cells that used sunlight energy to charge the laser's capacitors, and was a potentially devastating weapon when used outdoors during the daytime. In the final version of the game, the Scorcher was obtainable through a random encounter. However, the gun was originally intended to be a reward for completing a quest at the cut EPA facility.

The original Fallout 2 Solar Scorcher was an extremely rare prototype developed by scientists at the EPA (unofficially), and the version in this mod is a slightly more common Mk. II version which was put into production. It has a different aesthetic design, and has several advantages over the previous version, including a 32-round ammo capacity, digital ammo counter display, and a the ability to charge indoors or at night (at the cost of severely reduced damage.)

Special Features

The gun has a simple scripted digital ammo counter which gives a readout of the number of rounds in the magazine, which I wrote using NVSE-exclusive functions, so NVSE is required for the ammo counter to work.


Location

The Solar Scorcher is located on a table in the mainframe room at the top of the HELIOS One solar collecting tower. In addition, it is added into the leveled lists and is sold by the Van Graffs at the Silver Rush.


How to Use

The gun works just like a vanilla Recharger Pistol, recharging 1 shot every second and not needing to be reloaded. However, the gun's damage is affected by the level of light it is exposed to. It does 100% of its base damage when outside between 9AM and 3PM, 50% of its base damage when outside between 5AM and 9AM or 3PM and 8PM, and 10% of its base damage when indoors or between 8PM and 5AM.

Stats

The gun is balanced to be extremely powerful during the day, since it has a high base damage, high fire rate and high ammo capacity. However, around dusk and dawn it is marginal, and at night or indoors it is nearly useless unless you're built to get frequent critical hits.
