Out of the history of Old California comes a legend, friend of the oppressed and scourge of tyrants - Señor Zorro, the original secret identity superhero.
You will begin with a new Trait, Acrobatics.  This increases your agility by 1, adds 15 to your action points, increases your running speed and allows you to jump higher.  You will also begin with a black outfit, a black mask, a black mask and hat, and a rapier.  As your skills advance, additional equipment will be available at the workbench; an aristocrat's broad-brimmed black hat, more masks, cloaks, aristocratic clothing, wealthy idler's clothing, and a mule whip.  These outfits include two quite different sets of disguises; a collection of highwayman's masks, and a second identity as a harmless idler, supporting both male and female characters.  (Details below.)  There is also a player home, the Casa de la Vega, in Freeside southeast of the Old Mormon Fort.
Zorro was a superb swordsman, but avoided killing.  To help represent this, I've added a "knockout" capability to the rapier.  The sword does serious damage and will often kill opponents with a single blow, but it may render more powerful foes unconscious while they're still breathing.  Unconscious foes can be activated and searched.
(If you consider the rapier too powerful for the early game, you might look for the dress sword in Victor's shack.)
Zorro was also known to use a mule whip, for foes unworthy of his blade; if you want to avoid killing, you may wish to craft a whip.
CASA DE LA VEGA:
The Casa de la Vega is intended as a player home and potential main base.  The large room to the left as you enter is designed as the player's residence.  It includes a player bed, water supply, storage, additional weapons, and a fireside at which you can convert prewar books into usable notes.
The house also includes a living room, dining room, guest bedroom, kitchen, and armory.  The kitchen has storage and a working fireplace for cooking.  The armory has storage, a workbench, a reloading bench, and a forge where with enough repair skill you can craft edged weapons and some armor.
Bernardo, Diego's manservant, lives in the kitchen.  You can buy food from him.
QUIET EVENINGS READING BY THE FIRE:
You can make actual use of prewar books.  They can be used at any campfire, or at fireside in the Casa de la Vega residence, to compile notes on useful skills.  (The number of prewar books you need to craft a skill advancement varies; usually, it's ten.  I've tried to balance this with the nature of the skill and the frequency with which a particular model of prewar book occurs in the game.) You will need to gather enough books on the topic to craft Notes at the campfire, and for most topics you'll need good basic skill to begin independent study.  You can then activate the new Notes item to take your skill increase.
NOTES ON MASKS:
You are disguised, in a highwayman's mask! All major factions will consider you an enemy, and will attack you on sight regardless of your personal faction relation with them. However, since your true identity is concealed, any reputation changes that occur while in disguise will be erased when you remove the mask.
Warning: once NPCs in an area become aware of you as an enemy, they will remain hostile even if you take off your mask.  (You're still that wicked highwayman in their eyes.)  Only leaving the area will erase the hostility, although you will be able to return later in a different persona.
Exception:  the Powder Gangers are quite comfortable with masked bandits.  Wearing a mask will not make you an enemy in their eyes, and may in fact let you mingle with them even if you've been Vilified.  However, powder ganger guards may still recognize and attack you.
WEALTHY IDLER:
In his public identity, Zorro spent ten years persuading even his own family that as Diego Vega he was nothing but a wealthy idler:  too lazy for anyone to take him seriously, but from too influential a family for anyone to offend him unnecessarily.  In that persona, he was able to sit with his enemies and listen to their plans. The Wealthy Idler clothing is comparable to faction armor; as long as you don't act openly against them most faction members will ignore you.
Warning:  the Wealthy Idler outfit establishes an alternate identity, in which you have not offended anybody.  However, you can lose this immunity; reputation does not reset when you take off the Wealthy Idler outfit.  If you've offended a faction while in this identity, they will remember.
