Description

"A "Big Frigger" power fist from BeatCo. Considered by many to be the ultimate weapon to use in unarmed combat. Others are just scared. Powered by small energy cells."  - Fallout 1/Fallout 2 Description
The BeatCo "Big Frigger" Power Fist is a fictional weapon featured in Fallout 1 and 2. It was one of the most potent hand-to-hand weapons in the game, though in Fallout 2 it was supplanted by the upgraded Mega Power Fist. It has a much different aesthetic and method of operation to the power fist introduced in Fallout 3.

The Big Frigger power fist is shaped like a traditional heavy rubber glove, lined with a sturdy steel exoskeleton powered by electromechanical servomotors to increase the strength of the wearer in unarmed combat, which makes it relatively light and compact. In contrast, the Fallout 3/New Vegas power fist is a bulky armored gauntlet that relies on a pneumatic piston to deliver a blow to the target. As a result, the Big Frigger does less damage than the vanilla power fist, but attacks over twice as fast, giving it a much higher DPS. It is much lighter, and can be concealed as an improved holdout weapon. It also gives a 2.5x bonus to critical hit chance, and is can be effectively used in stealth since it is tagged as silent.

The weapon consumed small energy cells in the earlier Fallout games, but since New Vegas does not support ammo use for melee weapons, the main version does not consume ammo. However, there is an optional experimental version which uses scripts to make the weapon use ammo, and as such gives it better stats as a trade-off. This version only allows the use of standard energy cells, none of the alternate ammo types, and the mechanics are a bit wonky. If you try to use the power fist without ammo, it will still do full damage for a single hit, but will unequip itself each time a hit is landed.

The weapon has a special VATS powerattack called "Devil's Grip", which does 2.5x damage and instantly cripples all of your target's body parts at the cost of 45 action points if you have at least 75 unarmed skill.

There is also an optional version which equips two of the power fists at once, which is purely cosmetic and does not effect the stats. However, it requires a mod which replaces the pip-boy with a handheld version such as the Pipboy Readius or Pipboy 2500 so that the glove doesn't obscure the screen by clipping into it. The optional version can be run alongside the standard version, but there may be some script conflict issues. It is recommended to only run one version at a time.

  • Base damage: 36
  • Base DPS: 98 (2.72 swings/second)
  • Base critical multiplier: 2x
  • Critical chance multiplier: 2.5x
  • Base weight: 3.5 lbs

Location
The weapon is added to the leveled lists and will very rarely appear on enemies who would normally wield higher-tier unarmed weapons. Additionally, it is sold by the Gun Runners, Cliff Briscoe, and Mick in Freeside. There is also one somewhere in Doc Mitchell's house, of course.
