About this mod

Are you tired of pulling up your pip-boy every damn time you wanna snack on some berries? or recover some health? or a leg? This mod adds a cool quick real-time wheel menu thingy to your game, so you can use all of those chems collecting dust in your inventory, with ease!

~ Aid Quick Menu ~
If you're like me your playthroughs typically end up with you just hoarding a whole bunch of chems because you just always forget to use them!..

..Or it feels like such a pain to bring up the pip-boy in the middle of combat, clicking and scrolling through all that useless junk you're carrying, to finally be able to consume some glorious Psycho!.. or Berry Mentats (for freshness).

Well.. this newly obsessive need of mine to actually try and use more chems during my playtrhoughs drove me to.. MAKE A MOD FOR IT!

~ So what is it? ~
The mod consists of a menu you can display easily during normal gameplay to quickly choose and consume all your favorite ingestibles from your inventory, as an alternative to bringing up your pip-boy or using some of your limited normal item hotkeys.

I made the mod because I tend to use up all the normal hotkeys for weapons, so there usually isn't much room for aid items, especially not several different types of chems or stealth boys and doctor's bags (or food and water, if you play on hardcore).

So with an entire quick menu specifically for ingestibles you will have a lot more flexibility to use a wider variety of aid items quickly and easily :)

Now go and get addicted to all the chems!!
*Psycho injection sounds*
"LETS GOOO!!"

~ Last remarks ~
I have tinkered a lot with the GECK before but this is my first "official" mod so issues may ensue, however feel free to post any problems (or annoyances) you have with the mod and I may try and fix them.
It was a great learning experience and I hope you like the mod :)

Update: Thank you for all the downloads and endorsements :) (I didn't know it would be strangely satisfying to see those numbers go up every so often :P).
I really just made the mod for my own personal use, but I'm glad people also find my little mod useful!
Feel free to post any feedback you might have in the comments, I'd love to hear what you think and if something is annoying you or causing a problem with the mod! If so I hope I can help :)

Update 08/2021: I am a bit busy dealing with other things in my life at the moment so it might take a while before I can reply to your comments. Sorry in advance :)

~ "HOW TO USE!?", you say? ~
By default the menu is activated by holding the "c" key! (hotkey can be changed in the mod's INI file)

  • If you hold the "c" key while in the "Aid" section of your pip-boy, you can then press any of the number keys (up to and including 8) and the item you are currently hovering over will be assigned to that hotkey!
  • If you hold the "c" key while outside of the pip-boy the HUD wheel will be enabled! after that you can either scroll with the mousewheel or press any of the number keys to select your hotkey'd items!
(Note: selecting with the number keys will immediately use the selected item, which can be changed in the mods' INI file)
  • Then press the select key to use the selected item! (by default "e")

~ "Controller Users Behold!" ~
If you would like to use a controller with this mod, here are the instructions: (make sure to download the "Default Controller Config File" or change the INI file yourself to use controller input!)

  • In the "Aid" section of the pip-boy you can hold down the left shoulder button to make the HUD appear. After that you can use the right stick to select a position on the wheel and press either the right stick down or use D-pad left or right to assign the currently highlighted item to that position!
  • Outside of the pip-boy you can press the right stick down to enable the HUD! (this can be changed in the mod's INI file!). After that you can use the right stick to select an item on the wheel!
  • Finally you can use the selected item on the wheel by pressing the left shoulder button! (again, this can be changed in the mod's INI file!)

~ Texture size support ~
If you are using mods that change the size of textures for either the companion wheel or pip-boy aid item icons (or both), download "HUD Wheel And Icon Size Support" under optional downloads.

This will override the default "AidMenuHUD.xml" in the "Menus/Prefabs/CPCN/" folder with a new version with added settings.

If you open up the new "AidMenuHUD.xml" (notepad is fine), at the very top there will be two settings:

  • <_HUDWheelSizeMult>1
Change the 1 to however much larger than default the companion wheel texture you are using is.(Default texture is 512x512) (eg. a value of 2 would be twice the size of the default texture i.e. 1024x1024. 4 would be 2048x2048, 8 would be 4096x4096 etc.)
  • <_HUDIconSizeMult>1
Change the 1 to however much larger than default the pip-boy icons you are using are. (Default textures are 256x256) (eg. a value of 2 would be twice the size of the default textures i.e. 512x512. 4 would be 1024x1024, 8 would be 2048x2048 etc.)

Cheatsheet! (WIP)
I will try to add specific mods and their corresponding values to this list.
If you are using a mod that changes texture sizes but you don't know what values to use post a comment and I might figure it out and add it to the cheatsheet :)

~ INI FILE! ~ (No MCM for now, sorry)
You will find a nifty little "AidMenuConfig.ini" file in your "Config/CPCN/" folder where you can change a few settings related to the mod! including but not limited to:

  • Change size and position of the HUD!
  • Change the hotkeys used for enabling the HUD and selecting items!
  • Choose whether to toggle or hold the hotkey to enable and disable the HUD!
  • Change number keys to only select items, instead of immediately consuming them!
  • Change amount of time dilation when HUD is enabled! or none at all!
