About this mod

Soda does not dehydrate you - this mod fixes that, and also restores the survival skill scaling to all sodas.

A common myth is that soda dehydrates you when you drink it -- in reality while sugar and caffeine do dehydrate somewhat, the amount of water you drink in the average bottle of soda more than makes up for it.

Accordingly, as the "Rehydration" in the name would suggest, this mod makes it so that all sodas in the game provide a positive effect on your thirst in Hardcore mode, rather than negative.

Nuka-Cola and it's variations will now provide a base of -30 to your thirst, Ice-Cold Nuka & Sunset Sarsparilla will provide -40 (Irradiated Sunset Sarsparilla only provides -30, though)

This mod goes further though and re-enables the "food" flag to all sodas so they now scale thier effects to your survival skill, and be 3x better at 100, just like water.

Now for the "Debalance" bit.

Because the food tag scales ALL the effects with the survival skill, not just thirst, it somewhat makes the sodas a bit... overpowered. If you've seen how good Nuka Quartz & Nuka Victory are in terms of HP recovery, that gives you somewhat of an idea.

With the "food" flag enabled, at 100 survival, a normal Nuka-Cola/Sunset Sarsparilla will provide 150 hit points compared to the 90 pts a Stimpack will give you. Ice-Cold Nuka takes this to an insane 240 points!

This, I'm guessing, is why it's missing in the base game.

So, I've included an optional (but recommended) "Rebalanced" version of the mod that will nerf them a bit and bring them more in-line with the medicine skill.

Below are the changes this makes:

Keeping in mind the sodas do not scale in the vanilla game, normal Nuka-Cola is now 50% worse at the beginning of the game, but is 50% better at Survival 100. Ice-Cold Nuka is now pretty much in-line with a stimpack at all levels. It's not ideally what I would like to do but I can't do any better without modifying the survival skill (which would muck the entire game up!)

I've also included another optional version that adds the same HP recovery of the Victory/Quartz to the Quantum -- so it gets 3 x 20 = 60 points at base, or 9 x 20 = 180 points at survival 100.

Anyway, that's all optional, if you don't like the changes, no worries, the normal version is there for you too :)

The mod on it's own should be compatible with anything that doesn't edit the items, but I've also included a TTW version that integrates the changes that mod makes.

If there are any other mods you'd like me to make a compatibility patch for, let me know & I will be happy to!

If you'd like to use this mod in your mod and/or mod compilation, drop me a message beforehand so I can take a look at what you want to do with it.

Also crediting me would be appreciated, thanks.
