About this mod

(Versions for FNV and TTW) There once was a Mysterious Cube, whose purpose was unknown, but you can acquire it and discover its usefulness as a compact, mobile storage device capable of organizing all of your possessions and becoming a welcome addition to any player home lacking a good armory.

The Purpose

This mod is one we made specifically for our Cinemodded Fallout playthrough, because, despite the many talented player homes on the Nexus, we never felt they catered to what we were specifically wanting. So, we decided to make it ourselves, and we're uploading it so others can use it as well. We didn't want to just make an alternative player home. We wanted to make a mobile armory that can be combined with any other player home, or even just carried around. Leave the Cube on the shelf of your favorite home, and you'll be able to use its armory and sorting system if your player home lacks one or is lacking.

The Sorting

The sorting scripts for this mod are made from scratch. From within the Cube, you'll have quick, identifiable access to many categories of items, including weapons, apparel, aid, etc, and broken further down. One thing that left us unsatisfied with weapon sorting scripts was that most sort weapons based on their class, i.e. pistols, rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns, launchers, etc. If you're playing a character with a weapon class-specific build, that can be useful for you, but we usually play Fallout with a more survival/scrounger mentality when it comes to weapon management. By that we mean, we often choose our weapon load-outs based on ammunition type, not class. If you play on hardcore mode where ammo has weight, and thus you only carry the ammo you need at any given time, perhaps you too will understand.

With this mindset in mind, the sorting scripts sort weapons based on ammunition. It does so dynamically, using the JIP LN NVSE Plugin, so that, ideally, it will be compatible with any modded items whatsoever. Ammo is sorted in lockstep with the weapons. Of course some weapons don't use ammo, like melee weapons, and so sorting based on class does play a part, after sorting based on ammunition has completed. We play using Tale of Two Wastelands, so we built it with TTW's features in mind. And we recently created a non-TTW version! The .32 ammo box will be unused unless you have a mod that re-adds that ammo type.

The ammo scripts can't possibly anticipate every type of ammo that is added by other mods, so there are numerous Misc containers to try to sort them in what ways are possible: Misc Guns, Misc Energy Weapons, Misc Launchers, and Misc Devices. The script uses the type of weapon (Gun/EW/Explosive) to determine between the first three, while the last one is used for non-weapon "weapons", like the Camera.

Capital includes caps, faction currency, money, gold, and poker chips. It won't simply detect valuable junk added by other mods. Also, Books tries to include all books, regardless of their class as aid or junk. Misc Aid will include any aid items that weigh far more than any aid item normally would, like mods that add mobile "aid" turrets.

You can also reroute all sorted items to the Auxiliary Storage if you want to take everything and go.

The Mysterious Cube

The Mysterious Cube can be acquired during the Mothership Zeta quests. You can find out how to acquire it by going through the kidnapped Enclave soldier's things in the Holding Cell. You can then craft the cube. Alternatively, there is a cheat cube for those who don't want to bother, hidden beneath a bush behind Doc Mitchell's house in Goodsprings.

The cube is considered a weapon (because it houses an armory of weapons), and you can throw it like a mine. Once it is on the floor, you can activate it and choose to either pick it up or shrink down inside the cube. Once inside, use the control to manage your stuff or just take a rest. However, keep in mind that, if you threw the cube sideways onto the ground, the cube will be sideways once you are inside. Don't worry, the controls can turn the cube to rectify this. If you don't want to risk the cube landing on the wrong side, simply drop it from your inventory. You'll have the option to activate the cube from its guaranteed proper orientation.

Departing the cube will have you go back to normal size and to where you first entered the cube. The cube is very heavy. The idea is that you can choose to carry it with you, but since it is a whole armory, possibly your entire armory, it will take up significant carrying capacity, but then you'll be able to access it at any time. Otherwise, you can just leave it at your home, wherever that is. There is some light lore to explain where the cube came from, Pre-War government experimentation.

Try not to teleport out of the cube by other means. It shouldn't break anything, but it will leave the cube behind.

Perfectly Generic Objects

The concept of Perfectly Generic Objects was inspired by Homestuck, but they have been remade to fit the sci-fi, zany world of Fallout. The idea is that they're made of some type of element-neutral, ambient substance. The first one you find is the one used to make the cube. From within the cube, you can emulsify any items you want to throw away, turning them into more PGOs. Once you've done this, you can craft new items out of those PGOs. PGO recipes can be useful or horrible, but usually, they're pretty generic. Since PGOs are weightless, you could carry them until you get into a tough situation that could potentially make them useful. Otherwise they are just a convenient way to convert a bunch of heavy junk into weightless items to sell to vendors.

In general, PGO bullets are much more powerful than any other, but they break your weapons ridiculously fast. Meanwhile, PGO energy ammo are much weaker, but almost don't degrade weaponry at all. PGO drinks are just diluted water if you're really thirsty. PGO meals and medicine are mediocre. PGO poison lowers all SPECIAL stats by 1, making enemies slightly more mediocre. PGO poison can be used to craft PGO darts for the Dart Gun.

TTW Compatibility Note: This was made for TTW 3.2. While it probably works with newer versions of TTW, we have not tested it and cannot say for certain. Worst that could happen would be that some things don't sort correctly, but considering the redundancy put into the latest update, even that should work.
