This mod creates a very slight chance that your gun will explode and hurt you when shooting certain types of ammo, affected by your luck stat.

Background (History/Lore)

In 1967, during the Vietnam War, the United States' Military Assistance and Command in Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG) launched a top secret operation to plant sabotaged ammunition in captured Viet Cong supply caches and abandon them. Under the command of Colonel John Singluab, SOG technicians replaced a single live round from each ammunition case with one packed with high explosives. The explosive rounds were indistinguishable from ordinary rounds, even when disassembled due to the explosive pellets being shaped like smokeless powder flakes. When fired, they would blow the gun barrel apart like a pipe bomb, sending shrapnel into the shooter and people around him. Over 11,000 7.62mm rounds, 500 12.7mm rounds, and 2000 82mm mortar shells were sabotaged and put back into circulation in the North Vietnamese Army.

In addition to the psychological element of having their guns randomly explode, documents were forged and planted which blamed the NVA's Chinese suppliers for poor quality control in ammunition and rifles, making the Vietnamese highly suspect of China. US troops were warned not to use captured AK-47s because of alleged faulty Chinese metallurgy. However, the operation's cover was blown in 1969 when details were leaked to news publications, revealing the true cause of the weapon failures. This did not stop the operation, however, as the Vietnamese were now fearful of their tainted ammunition supplies regardless of the true culprit.


300 years later, in the world of Fallout, Caesar's Legion discovered the declassified documents about Project Eldest Son, and sought to copy them by planting similar explosive rounds in captured NCR supplies. Thanks to Sgt. Daniel Contreras at Camp McCarran stealing NCR supplies to sell, the Mojave Wasteland has now been overrun by tainted explosive ammunition supplies. All military ammo types now have a slight chance to explode, especially surplus ammo.


Specifications

As of update 1.1, the chance of your gun exploding varies with your luck stat.
As of update 1.2, the size of the gun affects the damage it does when it explodes. Pistols do a small amount of damage, rifles a good amount, heavy guns very much, and launchers will almost surely kill you when they explode.

There are two scripts for different ammo types. Surplus ammo and some other ammo types are 10 times as likely to explode than regular ammo. The chance only registers when you hit an NPC, so missed shots won't explode your gun. When the gun explodes, it damages your health by 125 points and breaks the gun regardless of its condition when it explodes.

With a luck of 1, standard ammo has a 1 in 1,000 chance of exploding. With a luck of 10, standard ammo has a 1 in 10,000 chance of exploding.

With a luck of 1, surplus ammo has a 1 in 100 chance of exploding. With a luck of 10, surplus ammo has a 1 in 1,000 chance of exploding.

The following ammo types have a possibility to explode: 5.56, 5mm, 12.7mm, .50 cal, .308, 9mm, 10mm, 12 gauge, SECs, MFCs, ECPs, missiles, 40mm grenades, and 25mm grenades. Only the standard and surplus ammo variants can explode, except for energy cells, which have a chance of exploding with OC cells. All the explosive ammo as well as overcharged energy cells have the same chance of exploding as surplus ammo.

CAUTION: The latest version can cause performance drops, if you experience lag use an earlier version. If anyone knows why the new script seems to be running constantly despite starting as an ammo effect please let me know
