About this mod

Adds twenty copies of Alec Robbins' critically acclaimed and autobiographical comic, Mr. Boop, to the Mojave Wasteland for you to find.

Permissions and credits
Wow! Could you even imagine being married to Betty Boop? She's sooooo hot. Alec's a real lucky guy, huh? You'd have to be the luckiest guy in the world for Betty Boop to be your wife!

People have been saying those exact sentences verbatim in that order for years, they're still saying it today, and thanks to this mod, they'll still be saying it 250 years from now in a post-apocalyptic, radiation-ravaged wasteland! Twenty, count them, twenty extremely rare copies of Alec Robbins' unbelievable autobiographical comic strip Mr. Boop are now out there in the wasteland for an enterprising Courier to collect. Live vicariously through Alec's centuries-old romance, and his luck at being married to Betty Boop—yes, that Betty Boop!—will rub off on you. That's right! When read, each copy of the magazine provides +2 Luck, or one extra point to all skills, for a short time (with the bonus doubled by the Comprehension perk).

But beware! One doesn't simply look upon Betty Boop and not want to be married to her right that instant! Reading any copy of Mr. Boop will immediately make you wish that she was your wife, and it will be so demoralizing that it will register in your Pip-boy as an addiction. It doesn't have any actual negative stat effects, though, but man! It sucks not being married to Betty Boop!

Additionally, many of the precious few copies of Mr. Boop in the Mojave Wasteland aren't just waiting for you to take them. Several of these richly romantic tomes are already in the private ownership of certain wastelanders who can and will kill you if you try to take their precious Boop away—sure, they may not actually be married to Betty Boop, but these comics are the closest they'll ever get and you'll get it over their cold, dead body. Or without them knowing. Your choice!

Features
  • Adds twenty copies of a new magazine item, Mr. Boop, to hidden locations in the game.
  • Consuming a copy of Mr. Boop temporarily boosts the Luck stat and instantly addicts you to wishing Betty Boop was your wife (no actual effect).
  • Adds two Challenges for tracking Mr. Boop collection progress. You must consume the volume of Mr. Boop for it to count towards these challenges.
  • Optional downloadable spoiler gallery that provides helpful but not all-revealing screenshots of all the magazine locations.

Why This Mod Sucks Plans for Future Releases
  • If you're using an inventory sorter (like PN), copies of Mr. Boop might be classified as Food instead of a Magazine. I should probably fix that!
  • You have to consume each copy to fulfill the challenge because I couldn't get the item to even show up in the GECK list of which items I could use for "Acquire Item" challenges and even if I did couldn't you just cheese it by selling them to vendors and re-buying them?
  • Anyone with the Voracious Reader perk can probably cheese these challenges. I should probably fix that!
  • Even though "addiction" to Mr. Boop and wishing Betty Boop was your wife doesn't have any actual gameplay effects, it still counts as an addiction for any mechanic that affects addiction and addiction chance, e.g. doctors can cure you of your crush on Betty Boop and More Conditions to Fast Travel won't let you fast travel while wishing Betty Boop was your wife (so I don't recommend using those mods together lmao)
  • The textures are vanilla resolution because that's what I play with and I wanted to keep things congruent and also because making just the regular texture took me like a whole hour and that was just for the little one and now you want me to make a big one??? I'm busy!!!!
  • I think some of the ownership flags are inconsistent, now that I think about it.
  • The file includes some meshes and textures that are probably redundant to have but look I just wanna make sure!! It took me so, so long to figure out how to make the textures work.
  • Look I just thought this was funny
  • This is my first mod of any actual significance and It's already taken me two whole nights just to make it this robust
  • like, it's one thing to make a joke mod but it's another thing to go back to it and fix it

Hints for Hunting
  • Given that Mr. Boop was the most successful work of narrative art in the history of humanity, copies can be found in many ruined pre-war structures. There were several who, when they saw the bombs dropping, reached for their copy of Mr. Boop to spend their final moments with Betty.
  • Nothing gets someone hotter and more inspired than Alec and Betty's extremely cool and open-minded sexual adventures. If it's not on their table, end table, or shelf, readers of Mr. Boop might keep their copy by their bed for easy access.
  • Look for the people with the lonely souls and aching hearts and you just may find Mr. Boop keeping them company.
  • Being a magazine, it's easy for copies of Mr. Boop to get lost in the shuffle. Copies can easily fall into some easy-to-overlook nooks and crannies.
  • You know who loves Betty Boop? Well, everyone, but especially guys. Any place where guys either were or are currently being dudes is a good place to look for Mr. Boop.
