THIS MOD REQUIRES THE DEAD MONEY DLC.
DESCRIPTION
I was inspired by the Colt Monitor (R80) variant of the Browning Automatic Rifle, which was used by the FBI during the post-WWI/Prohibition era, but put my own spin on it with a much shorter barrel and gas system that I think brings better balance to the overall look of the gun. However, I've also made alternate meshes available if you prefer the dimensions of the actual Colt Monitor.
I started with the Automatic Rifle mesh from the Dead Money DLC and removed the carry handle, bipod, and the shoulder support on the butt stock before shortening the barrel and gas system. I also folded down the flip-up rear sight and added the aperture that's supposed to be there, which came from the Service Rifle. I also lowered the front sight shroud and added a front sight post, also from the Service Rifle. Lastly, I widened the pistol grip slightly and shortened it to the proper length, and lengthened the magazine to look like it could actually hold .30-06 cartridges. For the compensator mod, I used the muzzle device from the Gauss Rifle.
Gameplay-wise, this weapon plays almost identically to the Automatic Rifle, but has reduced weight and a higher rate-of-fire (due to the shortened barrel and shortened gas system, respectively) with the trade-off being a lower overall condition (a shorter gas system means higher operating pressures, which means increased wear and tear on the parts). It can be modded with the 10mm SMG Recoil Compensator and the Hunting Rifle Extended Mags. I've also added the weapon to all the appropriate form lists, so that all perks and challenges that affect automatic rifles will work as expected.
LOCATION
The weapon can be purchased from the Gun Runners and other vendors across the Wasteland, or found in random loot drops. Of course, if you're feeling lazy, you can always use the following console command (Substitute ## with the number of the mod in your load order):
player.AddItem ##000ADE 1;Gives 1 Short-Barreled Automatic Rifle
INSTALLATION
Extract all the files in the archive to your New Vegas data folder (which is the same folder where FalloutNV.esm is located) and then enable the ESP either in your mod manager of choice, or under "Data Files" in the launcher that runs when you start up New Vegas.
