About this mod
Changes the Hunting Shotgun (and optionally the Dinner Bell) to use 20 gauge ammunition and eject the correct hull, along with a rebalance such that the shotgun will be the best 20 gauge weapon in the game but not as powerful as a 12 gauge. It also fixes a couple of cases in the world where the Hunting Shotgun would be found with the wrong ammo.
- Permissions and credits
- Changelogs
This mod should give the Hunting Shotgun and the 20 gauge ammo type additional utility for those players, making the ammo useful for more than just selling or breaking down. Because the lever-action shotgun will still be found earlier than the Hunting Shotgun and given that it benefits from the Cowboy perk, it should still have its place in the game as well even though the Hunting Shotgun will be the new "hardest-hitting" 20 gauge shotgun.
REQUIREMENTS
Versions are available either for use with the base game, or with Honest Hearts and Dead Money.
KNOWN ISSUES
None. Please report any bugs in the comments.
CONFLICTS
It will conflict with any mod that alters the WithAmmoNVHuntingShotgun leveled list or the Hunting Shotgun itself. Some optional files will conflict with any mod that alters the Dinner Bell. Read the descriptions of the optional esp-less patches for their conflicts.
RECOMMENDATIONS
I recommend using Shotgun Shell Fixes by Jeremy Calvert in order to make your 20 gauge shotguns use yellow shotgun shells (the 20 gauge hull in New Vegas is yellow, so this would be correct). Note that users of WRP may want to use one of the optional patch files instead (see below).
OPTIONAL FILES
A version is available for those who wish to rechamber the Dinner Bell to 20 gauge as well. As with vanilla, the Dinner Bell does increased damage over the Hunting Shotgun, but has decreased durability.
PATCHES (NO ESP):
RED HULLS EDITION VANILLA: Intended for those who do not wish to use the Shotgun Shell Fixes mod mentioned above and do not use WRP or another mod that changes the Hunting Shotgun's texture. This file will make 20 gauge hulls (ground object and ejected hull) red and changes the Hunting Shotgun's texture to load red shotgun shells like every other shotgun in the game (in the vanilla game, it loads yellow shells - if you didn't notice it before, you'll never unsee it now).
RED HULLS EDITION MODDED: Same as above except it does not change the Hunting Shotgun's texture. It's intended for users who want their 20 gauge shells to be consistently red, but use WRP or another mod that fixes the Hunting Shotgun texture.
YELLOW HULLS EDITION VANILLA: Intended for those who will use the Shotgun Shell Fixes mod mentioned above and do not use WRP or another mod that changes the Hunting Shotgun's texture. This file will simply make the Hunting Shotgun eject yellow shells, since in the vanilla game it already loads yellow ones.
YELLOW HULLS EDITION MODDED: Intended for those who will use the Shotgun Shell Fixes mod mentioned above and do use WRP or another mod that changes the Hunting Shotgun's texture. This patch will give the Hunting Shotgun back its vanilla texture with yellow shells being loaded if you choose to activate its files. Only use this patch if you want the consistent yellow shells and don't mind having the vanilla texture back. Remember, nobody should download this particular file unless they are using a retexture mod (most likely WRP).
YELLOW HULLS EDITION DINNER BELL: Intended for those who will use the Shotgun Shell Fixes mod mentioned above and/or want the Dinner Bell rechambered in 20 gauge as well. This patch will cause the Dinner Bell to load yellow shells and will conflict with any retextures of the Dinner Bell.
INSTALLATION
Only download ONE of the four main files, depending on your preference. Download only one (or none) of the main Red Hulls/Yellow Hulls patches as well as the Dinner Bell one if you want it. Put the contents of the mod folder (the folder with the .esp inside of it) into you Data folder; for the patch folder (if you downloaded one), folders called "meshes" and/or "textures" go into your Data folder. Alternatively, use a mod manager. To uninstall, delete the mod's files (.esp for the main files and the meshes + textures if you downloaded one of the optional files) or uninstall using a mod manager.
