DESCRIPTION
So, having already released custom weapons, armor and companions, I figured I should release a player home too, if only just to round out the set. This is a project I've been working on off-and-on for two years now, and I finally decided to knuckle down and finish it.

Watch Station A.E.G.I.S. is a lifeless space station perched in low Earth orbit that was originally built to serve as an orbital forward operating base for the U.S. military. However, before it could be put to use, the bombs fell and consumed the world in nuclear fire. For two centuries, the station has lain dormant and forgotten - little more than a fleeting glimmer in the night sky - until you rediscover it during your travels in the Wasteland...

The following is a complete breakdown of everything that's included in the mod. If you'd rather discover it for yourself and be surprised, stop reading now!

The station is annular in design, featuring eight separate modules:
  • Operations
  • Dormitory (includes Lavatory facilities and a fully-furnished Player Suite)
  • Recreation Deck (with a commissary where you can buy food & drink)
  • Infirmary (with an AutoDoc)
  • D.R.O.P. Bay
  • Armory (with a suit of custom power armor that you can repair either with skill or with gathered junk)
  • Cargo Bay
  • Docking Bay (with a shuttle to the surface)
  • Observation Ring (with a panoramic view of the Earth)

These modules are connected by a "transit system" that lets you go straight to any module from any other. One thing I disliked about other space station mods I found was that you typically had to walk through each cell in order to reach the one you want, which often made it frustrating and confusing to navigate. I hope you'll agree that I came up with a good compromise without taking away from the realism.

The station also features a holographic onboard assistant to talk to, who you can ask about almost any item or location on the station. She also acts as a vendor, and is the only source of a new chem I added called an Interlink Booster, which allows you to equip and use power armor, even if you don't have training, for one hour (real time, I think?). After the chem wears off, if you're still wearing power armor, you suffer a debuff that halves your movement speed and doubles the Action Point cost of all your weapons until you take the armor off. This simulates the weight of the armor becoming a burden without the proper training. If you already have power armor training, though, don't worry, the chem isn't useless to you! In your case, it will boost your Agility for an hour while in power armor, simulating an enhanced connection with your suit, allowing it to respond better to your movements.

As far as access goes, there are three ways onto and off of the station - a conventional shuttle which takes six hours of game time, a teleporter that is instantaneous but only works to bring you onto the station from any exterior cell, and what I consider to be the crown jewel of the mod, the Dynamic Re-entry of Orbital Personnel (D.R.O.P.) pods.

Starship Troopers is my all-time favourite novel, so this was a no-brainer, especially considering how we already have power armor. Basically, this option simulates being dropped from orbit in a pod to land at any point on Earth, just like in Starship Troopers (or like the ODSTs from the Halo franchise, if you're under the age of 25). Currently, you can choose between eight locations to deploy to: Camp McCarran, The Fort or The Strip in the Mojave, or The Citadel, Rivet City, Megaton, Paradise Falls or Evergreen Mills in the Capital Wasteland. A D.R.O.P. insertion takes ninety in-game minutes.

If you have any suggestions for additional insertion points, please leave a comment. I chose these particular locations to start with because I thought it would be the ultimate power move to be able to drop from orbit straight into your enemy's base and just lay waste to everyone. Oh, I also want to eventually make it so that you can drop into DLC areas like the Sierra Madre, Zion National Park, The Pitt, etc. but I'm not sure how to do it in a way that doesn't break the game. I'm thinking of maybe adding a condition where you can only drop there once you've completed the DLC, but at that point, I'm not sure how much value there would be in returning. If you have any input, please leave a comment.

As of v2.0, a Research Track has been added to allow you to research upgrades for the station. The following upgrades are available:
  • Intramural Targeting Scanners - Allows you to teleport down to the surface from the station
  • Digital Quantum Storage - Adds extra storage to the player suite
  • High-Def Holographic Projectors - Populates the station with holographic crew members
  • Expanded Cargo Manifest - Expands HOLLI's vendor inventory, as well as the types of food and drink available in the commissary. Also populates the Armory racks with cosmetic power armor and weapons

LOCATION
There are four opportunities to access the station. If you don't want it spoiled for you but still want a hint, consider exploring the areas in and around Old World military bases for clues.
Spoiler:
Show
The two main methods to gain access to the station were designed to be as immersive, lore-friendly and realistic as possible (within the limitations of the engine and base-game assets), to appeal to the roleplayers. There is a shuttle at Nellis AFB, and another one at Adams AFB.

Nellis AFB
Spoiler:
Show
A hidden underground hangar at Nellis can be found by walking north-northeast along the runway from the Nellis Array until you come across a watchtower and an artillery battery. The entrance to the hangar is located between the watchtower and the artillery battery.

Adams AFB
Spoiler:
Show
The shuttle is located in Hangar 3A, which can only be accessed once you have completed the quest 'Who Dares Wins' from the Broken Steel DLC (i.e. boarded the Vertibird back to the Citadel) and then returning to Adams AFB.

Aside from the shuttles, there are two Retrieval Beacons to be found in non-DLC areas in both the Capital and Mojave Wastelands. These are intended to be a lot more convenient for casual players, while still remaining lore friendly enough as to not completely destroy suspension of disbelief. Teleportation is firmly established as a possibility in the Fallout universe, after all.

Capital Wasteland
Spoiler:
Show
Around the vicinity of SatCom Array NW-07c, there is a crashed pod in a crater, inside which can be found one of the beacons. Look for the plume of black smoke.

Mojave Wasteland
Spoiler:
Show
Between the Old Nuclear Test Site and the Crashed Vertibird, there is a crashed pod in a crater, inside which can be found one of the beacons. Look for the plume of black smoke.

Note: If you can't find the beacon, it may have clipped through the floor. The FormID is ##AE0001 (##01AAE2 in v1.0) if you need to spawn another one via the console. Replace ## with the Mod Index of the mod in your load order.

INSTALLATION
Extract all the files in the archive to your New Vegas data folder (which is the same folder where FalloutNV.esm is located) and then enable the ESP either in your mod manager of choice, or under "Data Files" in the launcher that runs when you start up New Vegas.

SPECIAL THANKS
w31 - The Holographic Shader Effect mod gave me a look under the hood so that I could recreate the effect myself.
Vereena - The Space Station 101 mod's creative use of pipes inspired me to construct the exterior of my station the same way.

Also, if anyone knows who made the weapon rack mesh using the vault locker, please let me know so I can give them proper credit. I remapped some of the textures and completely overhauled the collision mesh so that each individual slot is useable, but I found the original mesh somewhere and can't remember where.
