During a recent playthrough, it dawned on me that Booze was near-useless in New Vegas unless you wanted a pitifully-short buff, and that playing an alcoholic character who preferred a specific drink (Scotch) had almost no significance, as all boozes were the same. I set out to fix this, with one goal in mind: Make Boozes Better.

Drink up!

(Created using YUP. Most changes Yuki made have been carried over, and will not be noted, as they’re mostly minor bugfixes that can be found here: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/51664/)

Effects: All alcohols now increase their effects in potency alongside their (Averaged) Alcohol content. The harder the booze, the better the effects, and the longer they last. From Beer, with a weak duration of four minutes (two hours, in-game) all the way up to Absinthe, with a strong duration of fifty-two minutes (twenty-six hours, in-game.) These effects also apply to a couple foods crafted using booze, for total consistency.

Hardcore Mode: All alcohols now decrease Dehydration, but only a tiny amount—you can’t live off of it, but it’s still liquid. Make sure to drink in moderation and alongside water!

Perks, Consistency and general bugfixes: All boozes are now supported by Old World Gourmet, meaning with that perk, they now restore health! In addition, all variations of Whiskey are supported by Cass’ “Whiskey Rose” perk, now granting +10 DT for the duration of the Alcohol’s new effects. Whiskey Rose also now supports all alcoholic drinks across the board by negating negative effects as originally intended, including my tweaks (but not including Rads.) Finally, all alcohols are now properly tagged as food/alcohol, meaning they are properly affected by Survival when applicable. (This may have some unintended side effects thanks to Survival scaling, I have not tested that.)

Rad Reduction and Resistance: All Alcohols now impart at least some small measure of rad flushing. This is because alcohols are naturally a diuretic, meaning your body flushes them out faster, and with them, some rads. I’ve also implemented most boozes adding a very small measure of Rad Resistance to represent this being a persistent effect past the initial flush. (And yes, STALKERs, Vodka is one of the top two Boozes with this effect; only again beaten out by Absinthe for sheer alcoholic content.)

Miscellaneous Tweaks: All boozes are now very slightly different from each other, meaning your choice of booze has much more meaning. Whiskey still grants Strength and Charisma (Which befits rough-and-tumble badasses like Cass) while Wine now reduces Strength by one, though still granting a bonus to Charisma (A high-class customer like you has no business exerting yourself like that.) Vodka buffs Endurance in addition to Strength, so drink up, Comrade! It will make you strong! Meanwhile, Scotch grants a bonus to Luck, and as before, Absinthe grants Perception (and a lot of it.)
